I have to admit, I'm agreeing with the people who are saying 'deal with it' more than anything - mainly because, well. It's a character, and it's really his choice what roles he wants to take at the end of the day.

If you don't want to watch it? Fine, I don't see why anyone would have an issue with that. It's your choice what you watch - though...honestly? If a [presumably former] unreturned crush is still effecting your life this much, you might want to think about figuring out why/a way deal with it, because it's obviously not healthy if just seeing an actor you like playing a role 'causes that big a reaction.

Well, I have had a lot of stupid unrequited crushes on straight girls, so I am never going to watch any movie where an actor I like plays a straight character ever again.

I'm not going to jump on you and call you homophobic OP, but I do think you should talk to someone about these feelings. If it's old feelings of humiliation you're working through, it's better to work through it rather than to have everyone think you're homophobic and you not being able to deal with gay people. Grow up, OP. Lots of people have had problems in their lives and avoiding a movie because you're afraid those feelings will come back is a sign of immaturity. How are you going to deal with a situation IRL if this is how you deal with a fictional problem? Actor=/=character.

1. Yes, you are being homophobic. You are actually being more homophobic than folks who just straight-up hate gay people, because you seem to be literally afraid of them on some level.

2. I understand that you had a bad experience and it's not like you woke up one day and decided to dislike a part of the population. Something set you off, it's not fun, it sucks, etc., and your own personal pain should not be made less important to you by the hundreds of LGBT individuals who have fallen for straight people. But it's still something to think about. Hundreds of people deal with this kind of pain. Which brings me to

3. If hundreds of people have dealt with this and are dealing with it, there must be better coping mechanisms than yours, which doesn't actually seem to be any sort of coping mechanism at all. "Avoiding gay people", or even just "avoiding attractive men playing gay men" if it's that specific a trigger for you, is not a good way of coping. Maybe you could actually use this movie to help yourself through this?

4. You need to do something to get yourself over this unrequited crush, specifically. If it's still having such an effect on you, it's a problem. Do yourself a favor and talk to somebody.

Wow. I can't go see the Karate Kid because they made a character I always pictured as white, black.

Not that I'm a racist, mind you.

It's just that back when I was a teenager, a black guy rejected me, and seeing black guys in movies always makes me feel uncomfortable.
