Wait, your artist friends are harassing others? Uncool. How old are your friends?

Artist ego can be an issue to deal with but I never see the point in harassing others, especially on sites like deviantart where age and professional experience vary about as widely as you can get. I see no point in harassing someone who might be like 15 or who just does art for fun.

And as an artist who started with basically no talent and turned it around to have at least some skill, people need to be careful who they turn their nose up to because that person could become a great artist some day.

She's 20. Some of her friends are in their mid 20s. I honestly thought it was just a phase back in high school (I admit it, I used to mock bad fanfiction too even though I never did it in front of the writer like writing reviews or anything, but I out grew it when I realised what an asshole I was being and thought she would as well).

She does it a lot on drawing boards like iScribble where her and her friends are pretty much worshipped by everyone else so no matter how nasty and troll like she and her friends get, it's all a-okay. Half of the mods there are her friends too. :/

sounds like you realize your friend is compensating for their rl issues. i do think like you shouldn't keep silent about this, because your friendship will probably suffer.

Yeah, the more I'm reading the comments people are giving, the more I think I shouldn't be keeping silent about this any more. (Strangely enough, our friendship isn't suffering at all - I just cope by not showing anybody my art anymore and as long as I try to steer her clear out of art topics, it's all find and dandy.)

So...why are you friends with this person again? People like that don't deserve any sympathy. <----from someone who had their own emotional issues but never took a shit on someone else as a way to cope.

Because she's a pretty great friend in other aspects. Supporting and understanding and a fun person to be around. As soon as it gets to art... yeah, fuck, I want to punch her sometimes.

I mean, I understand her behaviour and why she has it, but god knows it doesn't excuse her one bit.

Your friend's problems in real life are not an excuse for them to be a douche online. Tell them "As a friend who loves you, you're acting like a douche. If you need to talk about your problems I'm here to listen, but you need to stop taking them out on everyone else. It's fucking rude."

Stand up for yourself or your friendship will end up disappearing.

Ha! I'm too much of a pussy to say your exact wording in RL to her, but you're right, this is something I should talk to her about. There's a few of our other friends who've noticed this about her, but we've pretty much turned the blind eye to her behaviour so far (in the past, she wasn't actively harassing people, just mocking them behind their backs). It's only in the past year or so since she's discovered online drawing/chatting boards that it's gotten this bad.

If you have a few other friends who agree with you about what's been going on, you could always get everybody into a group chat. Before you talk to her about the problem though, just explain you're not trying to gang up on her, just that you're not the only one who believes her behavior is getting to the point of where you can't ignore it anymore because it's damaging your friendship. The real key to approaching this kind of problem is being assertive.
