Why don't you start a kinkmeme for your fandom?

Not OP, but if they're in the position I'm in, their fandom simply isn't big enough to host their own fic community or kink meme. I'm in a lot of fandoms and a lot of them are quiet/small.

Have to say, if anyone starts up an all-fandom kink meme, I'd be one of the first in line. I share your pain, OP. (Not on the tentacle thing, but on the kink thing in general. Heh.)

General multi-fandom kink memes just don't work, though. They tend to get overrun by a couple of particular fandoms (often fandoms big enough to support their own kink meme) which breeds resentment towards those fandoms, and smaller fandoms get pushed aside, which can be very disheartening.

Now, if it's a multi-fandom kink meme centred around a particular theme, for instance a tentacle kink meme, then it's more likely to succeed. The above scenario may still happen but it'll be much more limited if prompters can only work inside the theme, rather than prompting for anything within their fandom. After all, there are only so many ways to ask for tentacle fic featuring any one particular pairing...

If it were a kink meme for SMALL fandoms, hell to the yes.

Sometimes I wish I were better organized so I could run these things myself. Even if a fandom has its own kink meme, I find that it can be overrun by particular ships and the smaller/less popular ships get left behind.

Oh fandom, why do you cause us so much frustration?

The problem is that it's very hard to define what counts as a small fandom. Everyone is going to have a different POV on that. Should it only be for fandoms that have never had their own kink meme (but then, a fandom could have a kink meme but the meme may not have been active enough to survive). Should it only be for fandoms that only have a single LJ community dedicated to them (but then, any other communities might be long since dead).

I think grouping smaller fandoms that are connected by a common theme into memes could work - e.g. all manga by a particular mangaka or all video games of a certain genre. It keeps things a little more focused. But it still risks certain fandoms or pairings taking over.

In conclusion, kink memes are hard work.

There are plenty of fic comms and icon comms out there for small fandoms. A kink meme could work if someone really wanted to run it. OP could just start their own. Not saying it would be easy, and it would require a lot of work and a lot of advertising, but in my experience, small fandom communities really pull together. <3

Even then, some multi-fandom kink memes get overrrun with certain fandoms. There's a multi-fandom suit/tie kink meme on LJ and the majority of responses for it now are fills and comments for a multi-part (26 fills and counting!) H5O story.
