Well, in regards to the Trio, we don't know, exactly, when they had children. The epilogue was "19 years later," I believe, and since you must be eleven to get into Hogwarts (and James had already been there for a year, if I remember correctly) at least 7-8 years had to have passed before any of them had kids.

If you are referring to James and Lily, and possibly even Narcissia and Lucius, well...maybe the wizarding world's values were different back then? And with the pureblood families like the Malfoys, I'd expect them to encourage couples to marry and have children ASAP for pureblood heirs and things.

It could be a lot of reasons, some of which less involved than the one's I suggested, but it's an interesting point.

i always wondered why the malfoys didn't have more kids. if the purebloods were all dying out and ended up marrying distant cousins anyway, you'd think they'd all be trying to make as many babies as they could.

I think for plot reasons, since Draco was their only child it made the events of the 6th and 7th books really resonate with their family. But, yeah, I don't know why the rest of them don't seem to be like the Weasleys in the sheer amount of kids they have. :|a

My inner twelve-year-old cannot stop giggling at the mental image of millions of long-haired sperm just chilling out in narcissa's fallopian tubes. Like they're too important to try to get to the egg, or something

I assumed that with their being inbred having children was difficult for one or both of them. But then I'm also influenced by a fic I read where Lucius and Narcissa genetically manipulated unborn!Draco with magic so he'd "look like a Malfoy" instead of ending up looking like a Black family member.

Well, James and Lily were in the middle of a war. Sometimes the idea that every day may be your last encourages people to take big steps earlier than they might otherwise, because if they wait a year to get married they might both be dead, etc. I've had several friends get married in a rush because one of the pair was shipping out to a war zone.

Also, lots of people get married/have kids around the time they start careers and move out on their own, which seems to happen right after Hogwarts in the wizarding world - I don't remember anything about wizard college.

Yeah, the war probably had a lot to do with it...didn't Molly Weasley say something about that somewhere? I also know a couple who got married when they were both 18 and they wouldn't have done it so young except the guy was shipping off to Iraq in a couple months and they were like "now or never if we want to really be serious." It's working out really well now that he's out of the service, and they've got a really great marriage, but I know they would have waited longer if he hadn't been going off to war, and that's the same reason I always figured for the early marriage ages in HP.

Yeah, I think someone found a quote downthread that backs that up.

And the way things were portrayed (that they would start careers right after school) there wouldn't be any higher education, so to speak. So it seems a lot of people find their spouses at Hogwarts in the same way a lot of people seem to find their spouses in college/grad school :|a
