I have the same problem. All That isn't nearly as funny-- it has its moments but I remember being dead with laughter. It's still fun to watch though.
Keenan and Kel was still pretty good though.
I was always meh with Clarissa...

Watching the Rugrats though was just painful. Holy crap did I want to bash my head off a wall. Granted, I was watching the "newer" episodes so maybe that's why. I'm still convinced that The Mega Diaper Babies episode, the episode where they have the haunted house, the episode with the scary robot doll Chuckie and Tommy battle, and others are brilliant, but I have yet to watch them...

Yeah, I've been a bit leery about tuning into 90's Nick because I discovered All That is not quite as brilliant as I thought it was when I was little, though it still does make me laugh quite a bit.

I've never seen the last episodes of Rugrats, but I watched the first season on Netflix a couple of months ago and I thought it was just as funny as always, but if you were meh about Clarissa you probably have more discerning taste than me :)

Yeah, same. There are a few moments... Mostly I just get excited when a major character I remember comes on the TV.

I flip flopped a lot with a lot of shows, I don't do that as much today, so I don't know. One day I loved Hey Arnold and the next hated it sooo don't take my opinion too seriously, lol.

The quality of Hey Arnold was very hit and miss from one episode to another, so I can't blame you there.

[identity profile] meiko-matsui.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Well it's good to know I'm not too crazy... although I did do this with quite a few shows...

I'm so glas you mentioned Hey Arnold. I only recently started watching it again, and was like "Wtf? This is the show I used to love as a kid?"

Even the voices aren't as awesome as I remember them being. :-/

[identity profile] meiko-matsui.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
That's such a bummer, although I am tempted to check it out anyways.

[identity profile] danaphilip.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I have trouble with Keenan and Kel and All That ever since watching all the other (grown up) sitcoms and improv comedy shows that they repeatedly ripped off.

[identity profile] meiko-matsui.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Did they? I didn't notice. Granted, I only watched like two episodes and haven't watched it in years, so...

Well, that's lame.

[identity profile] etherealtsuki.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was quite obvious that they were heavily inspired by SNL.

And it wasn't like variety shows or shows with one amibitious straight man with the clueless idiot were original, really.

[identity profile] danaphilip.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
And a 10 year old kid would know this?

[identity profile] etherealtsuki.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I did at 12, mostly because I was watching 'grown-up' stuff way beforehand. My childhood was basically watching soap opera and primetime shows until I got a bit older and got interested in cartoons. My sister definitely did at 8.

But then again, it's not a bad thing either.

ymmv
ext_81845: the character ray person from generation kill, squinting and smiling/smirking (yeah... no.)

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Unless they stole specific jokes or situations from other comedies, it's not "ripping off" of anything.

And frankly, All That was so unfunny (even when I was a child I found it unfunny) that I doubt they stole any material from anyone else.

[identity profile] danaphilip.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
The episode when Keenan leaves an unflattering message on his dad's boss's machine and has to retrieve it is directly taken from Seinfeld.

But I mean, there's no point to picking on just K&K, plenty of shows take the same situations from Seinfeld.

Well SNL and Mad TV are pretty marginally funny too.

Try watching Rugrats before Dil was born. I have the later episodes on DVD and always thought they were OK, but then I saw the episodes before Dil was born and was AMAZED with how great they were.
