It's all about the kids with Rowling...

You know I finally figured out what bothers me about the epilogue. I couldn't care less how many kids they'll have and what ridiculous names they'll have. I wanted to know if Harry became an auror. If Hermione is some kickass magic expert. What is Ron doing? Did they do anything interesting? :/

About the names...isn't it normal for a woman in Britain to change her name to her husbands? That didn't seem weird to me.

I don't know what's worse- that she didn't bother to tell us about everyone's careers (yes Neville is an Herbology teacher but what about all the other characters) or that if she does mention it someday, it'll inevitably be disappointing.

She mentioned it; ages ago. In an interview literally days after DH came out.

If you're curious: Harry and Ron became Aurors--Harry was head of the department by 2008. Ron, however, did spend a brief period before becoming an Auror filling Fred's spot in the joke shop and helping George get back on his feet.

Hermione became the equivalent of a magical lawyer.

Ginny played for the Holyhead Harpies (an all female Quidditch team) before retiring to become a Quidditch reporter for the Daily Prophet.

Neville taught Herbology at Hogwarts (he married Hannah Abbott), while Luna traveled the world in search of unique and interest beings. She eventually married Rolf Scamander (grandson of Newt Scamander) and had two children later in life--after the trio had had their kids.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww! *hugs George* I always wanted to believe that Percy loosened up a bit after the battle and Fred's death, and he and George become super close and Percy maybe occasionally helped out at the joke shop even though he complained and protested it every time.

Awesome. I don't even care much for Ginny, but I love the idea that she became a professional athlete and continued to work in sports.

It's certainly common in the UK, yes, but then again so is racism. Realistic or not, Rowling is endorsing an outdated and inappropriate system...it would've been nice if she'd tried to provide some less 'traditional' role models for her readers instead of endorsing the nuclear family as though it's the only acceptable happy ending. :(
