I think circumstances will change. Arthur will focus on Camelot to the exclusion of the people he's close to. I would be sad for Gwen if she didn't go with Lancelot. Bradley has said as much, to Arthur, Camelot comes first and with Lancelot there's Gwen. And Angel has said that Lancelot is best for Gwen and she's with Arthur because Lancelot is not around. I worry that the writers will chicken out and not go the Gwen/Lance route, but I sincerely hope they do because otherwise I don't see how those characters are going to be happy.

I do hope the relationship will be further explored in some way, I just doubt it'll be with her two-timing Arthur. Maybe she'll start questioning what she really wants before it's too late. I like Arthur/Gwen enough but I think it would actually be really interesting if this show ends with him married to someone else, as one of the big tragic mistakes Arthur makes in the legend is choosing Guinevere even though Merlin foresees what will happen and tries to tell him she isn't the right one to marry. (I would so love for Merlin to see a vision in the crystal cave or something of her and Lancelot together that would actually be what starts to mess everything up and make Gwen start thinking more about it once she finds out, and I've thought about this too much...)

Well, that's the thing. People think her going with Lancelot means she had to have been unfaithful, but in the context of the show, it may not require her to cheat. It could develop in a different way. After all, they talk about what a mess the Arthur/Gwen relationship will become -- maybe the characters see that for themselves. It would be interesting, certainly.
