I wrote a fic like that, because it's what I knew. I channeled my awkward first time, and when I wrote about two characters sharing their first (and one's first entirely) time together, I pulled from that.

I had a few comments that were like, "I expected hotter ~sexing" but when I explained to one person where I was coming from when I wrote it, I had a lot of people suddenly like, "I can appreciate that..." It's as if many read that explanation and could see that I was going for realism, not ~*hot sexy time~* when I was writing it.

They're out there, OP. They are.

Yeah, I think the thing to keep in mind is that most people go to read a sex scene because, well, we want to get off on it. Realistic sex (as the OP has just found out) is not always awesome and hot. Sometimes you get halfway through and something happens (injury, loss of erection, wtfever) and have to call it off. So if you posted it as an NC-17 oneshot without explaining what you were going for, I might be a little disappointed as a reader. I respect what you're doing from a character standpoint -- just not what I want from my PORN ;)
