I get that you wanted to see more variety, which is fine, but if you think that people who get married young, have kids, and take their husband's last names are bad role models, you can shove it. Forcing everyone to do things YOUR way is stupid even if your way is against the societal norms. Live and let live, for fuck's sake.

I also take your offense at the idea that family isn't "important". Maybe to you it isn't, but to some people it's important to them. And that's THEIR. CHOICE. Sometimes people genuinely want to follow the norm. That's OK, just as it is for you to not want to. It's not "better" or "worse" it's just different.

tl;dr: More variety = awesome. Looking down on people for following the norms = stupid.

God, I hate fandom crap like this sometimes.

When those norms (specifically, a woman changing her last name to her husband's) are institutionalized forms of patriarchy dressed up as "tradition," it's not stupid at all to look down on people who buy into and maintain those norms. Not all traditions are good, and being something being a societal norm does not stop it from being harmful.

If a woman wants to take her husband's last name, you're saying that's harmful? I am a woman making my own choice about my life, and you're saying it's harmful and that you will look down on me for doing it? It's not the way you would choose to live your life, so it's bad? Fuck you, dude, I'll do what I want.

Ehm...I think that if pretty much EVERY character in a very well-known, influential children's series does it, it IS a case of bad role models.

Not in the sense that the choice is bad in itself, but in the sense that as a collective it is expressive values that are outdated.

There is nothing wrong with showing people who have babies in their early twenties...it sort of is wrong if in a cast of several dozens of people everyone is. Statistically, some would have waited until their thirties of fourties. Some would not have had any at all.

The lck of variation = promlematic in terms of rome models.
