While it WAS a heteronormative world, it was mostly focused on kids and their relationships with each other outside of romance and sexuality. Also, the fact that she introduced Dumbledore's sexuality outside of the books showed me that she didn't feel comfortable writing about things like that because of unfamiliarity. I'd much rather she create a heteronormative world than try to write characters that might offend people due to their portrayal. For example, I believe that if she, as a heteronormative person, had written a trans* character, people would be much more likely to either say that they were "enforcing a stereotype" if they exhibited certain traits, but if she left out those traits the character would be criticized as "not a true representation of the trans* community." She wasn't a writer that tried to stir up controversy, because she wrote childrens' books, and as unfortunate as it may be, including gay/trans* people would do just that. Until the rest of the world is more educated about these kinds of matters, people that are unfamiliar with the gay/trans* community should probably stay out of childrens' books.

Did you read the last three books?

4/7 of the series had little to no focus on romance and sexuality, and even the last three, while they had those things as plot points, were not all-encompassing. Hence why I said "mostly." I didn't say it wasn't a plot point at all or that it didn't exist. But for the entirety of the first few books, and for most of the content of the last few, those subjects still were on the backburner in favor of friendship, overcoming evil, and their interaction with the rest of the wizarding world.
