I'm usually pretty ignorant about the whole SJ thing and triggers and whatnot but--seriously?

It's not even exclusive to LJ. People don't use that phrase in real life without having at least one person raise an eyebrow.

To be fair, I lived for over a quarter of a century without even knowing that such a thing as triggers existed. I literally didn't know until i joined LJ fandom communities. I used to see the warnings on fics before, but assumed it was just "a squick".
Most places really do not get into this at all, online of offline.

Oh, no, sorry, I should have clarified. While I realize it could be a triggering phrase, I meant that offline people are usually discouraging of the phrase not because it is a trigger, but simply because it diminishes the violence of rape by using it in a petty and inappropriate context. That being said... I did go to an all girls high school, so maybe that phrase isn't frowned upon as much in other offline settings.
