Really? Man, I love fic where people reinterpret characters as trans. I can't think of any characters off the top of my head where that's my primary interpretation, but one of the things I love about fandom is getting to see lots of different interpretations of characters. I love to look at the personalities of characters I love from new angles, and given that gender structures are such a big part of society, seeing characters having to confront those structures in different ways always seems to reveal new things about their personality to me. I mean, it's not like being trans actually makes the character a different person, it just makes them relate to certain things differently. (I mean, like, if I read a fic where Tony Stark is trans, he's (or she's, depending on which way around the fic is) still going to be a genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, ze's just going to be one who is distinctly pissed off about hir body being made wrong.) (I refuse to believe Tony wouldn't frame it in his head in a mechanistic way. And then try to engineer his way out of the problem. TONYYY.) (Also, given that he'd clearly match the presentation of his armour to his actual identity, that could add an interesting spin on the ways in which he relates to the suit, assuming he builds it and creates his superhero identity pre-transition.)
