1. Don't be afraid to read the book. It's really amazing and you can't help but fall in love with it. In many ways, it's extremely different from the movie.

Diana Wynne Jones was one of my favourite authors once...well, still is, I suppose. Even if her books can be pretty confusing (me, I like confusing ^__^). I was pretty surprised when I heard Miazaki was making a movie of this book, and it's not a bad movie, even if it doesn't have much to do with he book. Since it's another artform, I think that's pretty much okay.

btw. I have to ask, have you read Hexwood?
I like that one even more...kinda wanted to draw manga-style fanart of it last time I read it (expecially the main guy, because he's just too cool ♥...cough. Nowadays I maybe even could do it *getting ideas*...

The way she makes her books is really great because you really have to be paying attention to see where all the details tie in.

Hexwood? I'm afraid not. I did read all the chronicles of Chrestomanci and the Darklord of Derkholm. There are a few more but I haven't read them in so long

I think Darklord of Derkholm might have been the first book by her I read.

Well, if you ever feel like reading Jones's book and/or can find Hexwood somewhere, I recommend it. It's perhaps one of her darker books, perhaps the only one I've really been shocked while reading.
Thought don't let that scare you, it was only one quite short part of the book (a flashback as well, but still).

I really should read more these days, but manga and fandom keep eating my time :')

I'm kind of amazed that I didn't even know about that until someone mentioned it at a Ycon panel and Vel stood to take a bow. XD
