1. I hated the book and the movie. But holy shit, did I hate the movie more.

13. FUCKING SIGNED.

[identity profile] pumkin-eater.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)

I read the book after the movie, and I really did like them both. Though I kind of wish the movie had just called itself something else; the message was completely different, and most of the plot was, as well.

Though I have to say, the scene where Howl starts oozing green slime still wins. Completely.

1. I've heard that before. I love the movie, but I'm afraid to read the book. I don't want it to be better then the movie ):

3. LOLOL thanks you just killed tetris for me XD;;

12. I remember that episode. I wanted it to be Wilson so much so much -- though, I can't say I relate to how you were feeling there XD;

13. South Park fandom is such crap >>
funkybrewsta: ([KurtHalsey]: you smell good)

13. IAWTC FOREVER AGH

14. Yes yes yes yes Oro ♥ Gai and Ibiki beat him for me, but Oro and Jiraiya come in right fater ♥ He needs more love.

I'm not sure why, but that made me laugh pretty hard.

[identity profile] missmorrichan.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
7. I like Catcher in the Rye (when I first read it I plowed through it all in one sitting), but I haven't had the chance to read any of Mr. Salinger's other books. This doesn't make me a bad person, does it? XD;

And forgive my igorance, but how come people would think you're like Gerard Way? (and now I have to see if I can remember who that is in the first place!...)

8. Penelo! It's so nice when RPG characters don't fall into stereotyped roles, isn't it? Brooding heroes and tragic magical girls start to get bording after a while!

13. I've hardly seen the show (not really my thing), but... what. o_o

[identity profile] sarajayechan.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
3. LOL TETRIS PR0N XD
13. I THINK I KNOW WHO THIS IS but even if I'm wrong, still, word.

[identity profile] helensheep.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
25. omg, I agree so much. I adore Arthur C. Clarke for that exact reason.

[identity profile] byewonderland.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[01] I enjoyed the movie but I'm still trying to find a copy of the book to read; my sister and some friends have recommended it to me. I figured I'd give it a shot - even if the book is better than the movie, it doesn't mean the movie sucked. The same with movie versions of comics. It's best to look at them as separate things. It makes it a more enjoyable fun in the end instead of wasting time slamming the movies with every little detail that is different from the original.

[02] Seriously, I've been looking forward to that movie for so long - it can't get here fast enough!

[19] Can we get Tom Baker back too, kthx? PS - My dad has that sweater vest. I'm still trying to get him to let me borrow it. And the giant-ass scarf. :3

[identity profile] onedayafter.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
2. They were the only thing I liked about the movie.

[identity profile] rhapsody.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
3. I kinda want a link to the Tetris porn but then I might be scarred for life D:
13. I adore South park but never went into the fandom because of that.
16. I read that as Vader's NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!.

[identity profile] poissonlune.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I admit I didn't like the book all that much when I first read it, but I disliked the movie even more. Although I tried to tell myself that attempting to fit the whole, complicated DWJ plot into a move was kind of impossible. :/

11. .... WTF have those people even read the book?

[identity profile] yuriranch.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
4. Haven't you heard? THE INTERNET IS FOR PORN! :<

10. That song is so fucking addicting. F O E! F O E!

16. Whack me with a stick: I don't get it.

[identity profile] jianna.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
19. I LOVE YOU, WHOEVER YOU ARE.

[identity profile] mature.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
1. The movie made me cry big bitch tears.

[identity profile] fearlessfirefly.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
19 for the FUCKING WIN. YESSSSS.

[identity profile] crackjaw.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
1. God, I know. He took a perfectly fine plot and turned it into a carbon copy of his own work, and lost all familiarity in the process. I lost a little respect for Miyazaki after watching that movie.

11. HAHA OMG INORITE. :( STOP IT, PEOPLE.

16. This one made me giggle.

23. I did that. I didn't think I did it very well, but nobody guessed it was me, so.

19 & 22

[identity profile] zhoutaisdayoff.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
19. A-fucking-men.

22. Okay, why am I -NOT- surprised that there's Mythbusters slash?

[identity profile] corps.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Sucks to be you, huh?

16. I KNOW WHO YOU ARE~

1. I have never read the book, but I was very disappointed with the movie nonetheless. It lacked something. I think Miyazaki should stick to his own stories.

14. Erk. No flames meant, truly, but that makes me shudder. ::shudder:: Then again I like Neji, who, aside from not having the tongue, doesn't look that much different. So I think it's just a case of my usual inability to like bad guys.

19. OMG YES IT IS TRUE. Now, I'm a fan who came in via New Who, but it was really a gateway drug. One of the first things I did when I fell in love with the new version of the show was to go buy a some of the classic eps. And I'll read any Doctor. Frankly I wish there was more Six/Peri... ::dodges tomatoes:: And I'd really like to see the TV movie. And more of Five. And some of Two. And definitely some of Seven, who I've only read some fics about and seen in songvids so far. Anyway yeah. Rose =/= the only good thing.

22. I hate RPS, but I'll read that pairing. :/ ::is a hypocrite::

26. I haven't had that exact experience but I know how you feel :(

[identity profile] aoi-tenshi.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I saw it posted as a seceret here before, but a movie can not ruin a book since they're seperate things :X You can hate the way the movie tried to tell the story or feel like it wasn't able to convey the same things that the book did, but in itself it can't really ruin it since they're seperate things...but I liked the movie XD *shrugs* It made my shoujo, happy ending lovin' self happy XP

3. XDDDD

[identity profile] perfectdays.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
#1. I think everyone else has already said what I wanted to say regarding this but eh. So yes, if the criteria you are judging the movie by is how well it represents the book (and if it was your favourite childhood book, I can understand why you would, and why you would feel let down), then of course it's going to fail by anyone's standards.

But I think that the important thing to remember here is that the movie isn't really a transformation of the book. It's more like, Miyazaki has taken a brilliant idea, and then run with it to create a new and equally amazing story. You could even think of it as like an "alternate" version of events. Just because the plot and storyline turned out to be completely different, it doesn't mean that it's bad.

If you try to treat the movie as a completely seperate entity all on it's own, you may find it much more enjoyable. I know I did. I think both the book and the movie are beautiful, but each in their own seperate ways, and I think it's sad that people compare them, because... you can't, really. Apples and oranges.

To #1: *patpat* It's okay, I figured there'd be at least one of you out there somewhere. Take heart. At least Gainax didn't animate it.

To #2: It's Cillian Murphy. You'll get your wish sooner or later.

To #3: LOL! I know which story you mean, too!

To #4: Oh? This is new. *bookmarks* Thank you!

To #7: I feel your pain. I love that book and can't talk about it. :-(

To #8: Instead, she got back-burner'd. -_-

To #10: Good thing, since there isn't all that much of a story, anyway.

To #13: And that's why South Park fandom kinda scares me a bit. How'd it get that strange?

To #19: Good to hear from the Doctor Who fans of Days Gone By. Was wondering when you'd speak up. :-)

To #25: One of my all-time favorite movies, and that's a big reason why. It got space travel right. Every time there's a scene where they go outside and all the audience hears is breathing, I get chills. Beautifully done.
