If you're looking for dark and sinister in TF2, you are DEFINITELY looking in the wrong place and have likely missed the entire point of the game, which is that it's chaotic fucking nuts.

Also, what I got from the video is that Medic is batshit insane, which is pretty macabre considering it's a game where you can throw pee at your enemies and have Heavy wear a party hat.

Also, I agree about the fanart of the doves statement. I feel like I am seeing the same picture over and over, but then I realize it's actually a different picture.

Sorry they couldn't break the aesthetic of a rather whimsical game and make you the "grimdark" character you wanted. That would require them to make everyone bald and grisly and switch their color pallet to "brown. brown everywhere."

How was he dark or sinister? Before the video, his entire character was based on his lines in the game. He never really had a canon personality. You saying they ruined him with this is sort of like reading Harry Potter fanfic before the book and then getting pissed when he really didn't have the powers of all the houses and he was sired by Salazar and Godric but in secret and he had one angel wing and one devil one and and and

This amuses me because I showed that video to my friend (who's a Medic irl~) and she absolutely LOVED it, despite not knowing what the flip TF2 was.

Also, you might wanna try seeing other fandoms if you're looking for sinister shit in TF2. Wasn't the point of it to be funny as hell?

Everyone had various expectations as to what the Medic was really like; some believed he was much like a mother hen with bloodlust on the backburner, others believed he was a psychotic maniac who probably would keep feral beasts around for medical testing- or even test on the other members of the groups. Sure, he seemed a little 'doofy' but sometimes things don't turn out the way you want them to.

Kind of like I still believe they'll reveal something about Pyro's gender in his/her video, or at least hope so.

Your idea of what makes a guy sinister is very narrow. In fact, a mild hobby(like dovekeeping) can be a way to enhance the horror of someone's less mild hobbies(like keeping people's heads alive in one's freezer). It says, "Look at these sweet animals I care for! I could care for my teammates like this, but instead I do experiments on them."

It's also a reminder that, at the end of the day, the Medic IS your friend.

1) It's "menagerie", usually I don't care about spelling mistakes/typos in secrets but you could have used other words, so this makes you look like you're trying too hard to sound smart

2)TF2 was never serious, none of the characters were ever serious

Medic has always come across as campy to me. I understand there's little to go on with the in-game dialogue but... Dark? Really?

If you've been reading nothing but fanfic, that explains where you got your view of Medic. As much as this anon loves the fic, it is not the best way to gauge characters in a first-person hat simulator.

1) Look at his expressions. Listen to his complete disregard for empathy and human life. That's possibly as dark/morbid as you can have things in a goofy game like TF2.
2) Doves/pigeons are pests. They're probably there because of the irony of having a doctor telling a pest off for being in "somewhere filthy". See point 1.
3) Pigeons are easier to keep around than venomous animals, as they probably don't need as much confinement - that idea could have bitten him in the arse, no pun intended.

Look down, now back up. Where are you? You're on FandomSecretss, complaining about the Medic your Medic could be. Look down at your game, now back up. I have it: Medic's collection of voice lines. LOOK AGAIN, MTM!MEDIC IS NOW IN-CHARACTER. Anything is possible when you actually consult the damn source material.

Rather than address everyone individually, I'll just post here.

I like how everyone assumes I read fanfic, or have an elaborate headcanon for Medic. I don't(I do love the fanart comms on DA, but fic is not my thing). I just happen to think that a guy who enjoys hurting people more than helping them is not a 'tee hee silly willy' character, and that TF2, being a game about basically murdering people repeatedly, is best taken as a game with dark humor rather than a completely light hearted romp.

I understand fully the use of doves as an unexpected 'pet'(Man of war, birds of peace, etc., etc., etc.), but then again, why did he need pets at all?

I also think there was plenty of 'happy psychopath syndrome' with the Soldier. Perhaps hated, dark and sinister were bad word choices for my secret, but I really would have loved it if Medic could at least have been left a bit more intelligent rather than giggling half-competent mad scientist.

That said, I AM fully aware that it's not my choice to make and what is, is. It was called a rant, and kept secret for a reason. because I needed to get what was irritating me about MtM out of my system so I could continue enjoying a game I love. I'm not the type who ignores canon or leaves a fandom because my expectations are not met to the letter.

And as for why the secret is 'late', I really tried to avoid posting it, but it was irritating me on a minor level, particularly when I saw all the dove fanart pop up on DA, and needed to get out. I kinda thought that's what F!S was about...
