I disagree with you, I think he picked Ginny because she's part Ron and part Lily. They never had any chemistry, but she filled missing parts in Harry's life. I feel bad for her, that she never found someone that actually appreciated her for her rather than used for for who they needed her to be.

Maybe that was the intent, but JKR kinda forced Ginny into the "mothering" role in later books. It seemed out of character for her.

That's a good interpretation to feel bad about, but I don't think it's at all what JKR intended or implied.

I don't think it's what she intended either, I think she kinda forgot to make that relationship work throughout the later books and then in the ended "needed" someone for Harry to pair off with. With all she did well, I wish she would have done better with that relationship.

I can agree with that. I think a little too much time was spent with the monster in Harry's chest and not enough time was spent with why they actually could work. Though, in reply to your comment to the anon above, I'm having a hard time remembering when she was particularly mothering in the books. Movies? Yeah. Harry can tie his own shoes. But books? Drawing a blank.

I agree with your whole second sentence very much. As for when in the books, it was a general feeling in the last two (maybe three?). I wish I could cite chapter and verse, but I don't remember. I haven't seen the last three movies (and don't intend to), so my feelings are all coming from the books.

Harry picked Ginny because of her family. It wasn't that he wanted to marry his mother, it's that he wanted a family, and the Weasleys are a big one.

If that's so, he's still using her. He didn't pick her, he picked her family. He could have just as easily married Ron, then. And they have more in common.
