It's an easy joke to make because there are some similarities between Bonnie and the actress who plays Lily. And it doesn't help that Ginny, in the movies, ties his shoelaces and gives him cookies.

So sick of the Lily-Ginny comparisons. They don't even have the same kind of red hair, I doubt they actually looked that much alike. And I don't see their personalities being similar at all.

I disagree with you, I think he picked Ginny because she's part Ron and part Lily. They never had any chemistry, but she filled missing parts in Harry's life. I feel bad for her, that she never found someone that actually appreciated her for her rather than used for for who they needed her to be.

Harry picked Ginny because of her family. It wasn't that he wanted to marry his mother, it's that he wanted a family, and the Weasleys are a big one.

I'm not the biggest fan of H/G either. I don't mind them in the books but I don't go searching for fic or other fannish stuff.

That said, I remember reading somewhere that, if anything, Ginny is more like James and Harry is more like Lily character-wise. I think it makes sense.

if Harry had that complex, he should've married Mrs. Weasley

I got my boyfriend to read the books, and he legit thought that they were going to hook up for a while (he also pictured Mrs. Weasley as a MILF, so...).

I...treat this as a joke, honestly? Not the pair, but the whole Oedipus complex thing (even if it actually was an Oedipus complex, it would be someone who looks/acts like Petunia or Mrs. Weasley rather than Lily). It's funny to me, but it's not the reason I dislike H/G, and nor do I think that's the reason JKR put them together.

I agree. I wish the romance would have been left open, or at least that everybody hadn't married the people they met in school. And that the family part of Harry's story had ended with him realising that he didn't need the idealised family in his mind, but that Ron, Hermione, the Weasleys and his friends were his family, and that families can be different things and no worse because of it.

I hate the pairing, but the marriage is disturbingly true to life. It's certainly not the first time someone dated/married someone who strongly resembled their parent.

I don't like H/G but that point never even occurred to me, I suppose because his mom was a red-head? But to imply that because you marry a woman with the hair color as your mom you want to bone her is pretty fucking insane.

More than anything else, if JK had just spent a tad more time sort of building up their relationship I'd have accepted it more, t just felt rushed as hell and leaves me with the depressing idea that Harry married her because he wanted a family.

i don't see how he could have had one in the first place, being an orphan as a baby. he never knew his parents, how would he develop that particular complex?

My interpretation was always Hermione=Lily and Ron=James. I like the idea of his BFFs being kinda like his parents.

Oh, and Harry married Ginny because he loved her. That's all.
