I personally prefer Sims 3 over Sims 2, but they both have their pros and cons.

The Sims 3 is the latest version, so they tend to cost more. But the first one has been out for awhile and I always see it on sale or bundled with other expansions for reasonable prices. On the other hand, I've seen Sims 2 frequently being sold at $20 per expansion. Sims 3 is still getting patches and being supported by EA. This can be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. The Sims 2 is "complete" so what you see is what you get, but this could be a lot less frustrations. I don't know what kind of computer you have, but a decent graphics card can make things a lot less annoying. Sims 2 has a lot of loading screens. Loading to go to university. Loading to go downtown. :/ I love the streamline loading of Sims 3. That's probably the biggest reason I prefer it. Also, Sims 3 has better customizing. You can change colouring and patterns of almost anything, so less custom files. Sims 2 isn't as flexible. In the end, it probably really depends on your computer. I know a lot of people can't run Sims 3, but can run Sims 2 fine.

I think I've settled on Sims 2, if only because I can get most of the expansions in bundles of three for twenty bucks a pop (If I decide I like it), as well as the main game and two expansions for the same. So that's pretty cool.

Plus my computer is juuuust old enough that I'm not sure it'd be able to run 3 smoothly.

Since you like the Sims 3 as well, I would suggest looking into these mods if you don't have them already: www.the-isz.com/nraas/

I love them, they alter the game's story progression and the townies get married and have kids and get jobs and you get a ton of customizable options with the master controller, it's amazing, i love it!

Yeah, NRaas mods are awesome. :D I think my game would be borked without the Overwatch and ErrorTrap. I had some problems with Late Night lagging my computer. Too many cars and stereos were on, but the mods clean it up. ^^

Sometimes I use AwesomeMod with them, but I ran into a problem with my sims preforming a 'flirt' action (it was 'Compliment' and I thought it was in the friendly category) with a teen which got her sent to jail and stuck with a permanent Pedobear moodlet. It was hilarious (at first). But then she couldn't get a job (she got fired) and no one wanted to have a relationship with her. She was a sad sim. :( After much lurking I found out Pescado intended it to be that way and refuses to ever change it and will call you a sick pervert. Too bad, it's almost a perfect mod. :/

Yeah I can't play now without Nraas's Overwatch, Story Progression, and Master Controller mods.
