I think it's more how she popularized the Draco in leather pants meme. Plus she wrote the fics 10-ish years ago, so I'm guessing a lot of people were in their early teens when they first read it and have youth and nostalgia glasses on.

Dude I was in fandom at the height of these and I still didn't and don't get it. They were recced to me and I couldn't understand why the reccer liked it at all. It is such a badfic it's not even funny

All those Draco-worshipping fanbrats will defend these fics to the death. Not the people who genuinely think Draco is an interesting character and recognise his faults, but the people who say JK Rowling got him "wrong" and act like Harry repeatedly emotional and physically abused him and who think Draco is a poor misunderstood woobie who never did anything wrong in his entire life. Because these fics popularised that version of Draco and the fanbrats would rather believe the super-special delicate Gary Stu!Draco CC gave them is the real Draco, to the point that they cannot comprehend canon examples of Draco being a jerk because JKR's canon is not their canon. It's easier for them to insist everyone else in fandom and the books themselves are incorrect than admit they love a completely different character CC just happened to call Draco.

They meant a lot to me in my misguided youth because they came along during the epic gap between books 4 and 5, and were my first real taste of HP fanon.

Maybe in a few years I'll seek them out again and actually finish the last one.

In a weird way, I kind of look back on that period as a golden time in my fanon-life - there was a big sense of community without the later drama, and it all felt new and exciting.

And everything was beautiful and nothing hurt etc. :D

*lol* I was wondering the same thing for the longest time.
In the very first week when I was in HP fandom, I found one of her stories recced (and they were all indeed highly recommended)...let's just say the rec was right reading only 5 minutes left such an impact: I didn't touch fanfiction for about 8 month (I only looked at fanart and read meta).
