I'm willing to forgive bad art sooner than I am a bad story, though, and while SH and JR are so far from perfect it isn't even funny, I still can't help being drawn to some of the characters and their relationships.

Not sure what to say then--the art styles are all different, the stories are all different (and engaging), and they're a very good spread of different factions of the BL genre. If you don't try any just because you're convinced they'll all turn out the same way, then I guess there's no use trying to convince you *shrug*

I'm just saying I don't see a huge variety of art styles in what you posted. Except for a few of them, they seem very similar to the OP's secret.

I sort of see what she's saying. While they are all distinct art styles, they have a certain BL-ish look to them; i.e. they are different but they share similarities that would allow the average person who was even slightly familiar with the genre to pick them out as BL when held up next to, say, shounen manga. (Perhaps not some shoujo.)

There's nothing at all wrong with BL as a genre, but it's romance-heavy (as it should be! it's a romance genre) and that turns people off. I like action, for example, but I'd be the biggest idiot in the world if I didn't acknowledge that action has its own tropes and tends to be predictable in a lot of ways. Same with BL.

Solution? Doujinshi of action series ;p

Haha wow, I never even noticed that but now that you mention it...

Then again, the ukes in Nakamura's works (in the secret) tend to have darker hair (67%!), so perhaps she's a rebel that way.

I just noticed because, not only does every single uke have lighter hair in the links you just posted, but back when I was still reading BL it was the other way around ;p I remember seeing a lot of lighter-haired semes and darker-haired ukes, like Iason/Riki and Naoe/Takaya. Oh and Muraki/Tsuzuki, I suppose.

I personally liked Youka Nitta's Haru wo Daiteita, but...erm. Considering how she traced some of the panels and such, I feel kinda iffy about rec'ing it for its art.

Oh well. I still think it looks pretty.
