Um...yeah. Twilight fandom was pretty huge before the movies, hence why they even made the movies at all. Fandom was fairly small with the first two books, then it started really growing around the time the third book was released. The movies definitely made the fandom bigger, but it was big before the movies were even thought about.

I'm german. So I can only say it from my country. I should have write that I'm sorry. The boom only started here because it became a movie. I seriously never met a Twilight-fan in Germany before it. :/
It takes some time in Germany till a fandom is big enough to be recognized compared with America... I think.
So when the movie came out everything exploded and the war started.
