To be honest, the way that pairing took over the fandom like THAT made me drop both the fandom and the show before the first season even ended. I've heard the ending is unsatisfying so I dunno if I'll ever finish it at this point.

Yeeeah, the ending isn't the best. I was confused by its lack of...um, quality, I guess. The Shizaya obsession turned me off a bit, but I stayed in the show for Celty.

I think the fandom needs more fans like you.

I like Shizaya from time to time, but some variety would be more than welcomed. -__-

I'm one of the fans who wishes there wasn't as much Shizaya.
Shizuo is cool, I won't deny that, but Izaya pisses me off and I think Celty and Shinra are more interesting.
(And Mikado thanks to the light novels.)

I think it's just that we all left.

Besides that, I could've written this secret in my sleep. I've never seen a pairing take over a fandom with such speed, and I definitely would like some diversity.

I'd rather read more about the van gang than Shizaya anyday. Shizaya was the main reason I dropped the fandom completely.

This is pretty much the same reason why I couldn't get into the fandom either. I still liked watching the episodes (I haven't finished it, though *sigh*) and reading fanfics/looking at fanart but ... I'm tired of Shizaya.
I think both Shizou and Izaya are cool characters. But. I'd love to read something Izaya/Kida. Shizou/Celty. Unfortunately, it seems like it drowned somewhere under that Shizaya mountain.

Ugh, I sympathize. Shizaya bores me to tears.

Honestly speaking, I'm not 'in' the fandom, but IMHO Shizuo, Izaya, Shinra, Simon, Erika and Walker were the only even halfway interesting characters, and most of those are probably just because I have a thing for lovable sociopaths. Maybe it's just because I watched Baccano! first (in which pretty much every character except Dallas had a moment of mindblowing kickassity), but when watching Drr!, I spent half of the time utterly cold to the series.

Gonna take this opportunity to ask for recs. I was late to the party, but I couldn't seem to find any decent Shizaya fics (or any other pairings, for that matter). :/

Argh yeah, that's exactly why I can't get into the fandom. The pairing is so freaking prevelent, I can't think of either of their names without thinking Shizaya first. More Dotachin please.

I guess I'll go watch Baccano! as it sounds a lot more interesting.

From what I've heard, the Drr light novels are the superior series. Haven't read any of them yet, but I've heard that what happens AFTER the anticlimatic stuff they ended the anime on is utterly mindblowing. As far as the anime adaptations go, Baccano! trounces it. Imagine a series in which every character is:

a) suave and debonair
b) adorable
c) gut-wrenchingly tragic
d) absolutely bat fuck crazy
e) all of the above.

It's one of my all-time favourites, and I highly recommend it. It even has a really competent dub (J.Michael Tatum's performance is awesome.)

Man, I got so sick of that pairing quickly. I normally like what the majority of the fandom likes too...

I'll go over there in that corner shipping Mikado/Aoba, Mikado/Izaya, Van Gang OTG, Celty/Shizuo, and everything other than Shizaya.

I ship Izuo (but I tend to see more Shizaya when I go looking).
And Shinra/Celty,
and Mikado/Masaomi/Anri,
and Kyouhei/Erika,
and Izaya/Namie,
and... yeah.

I will admit to shipping Shizaya, but there are also so many other awesome characters. I haven't gotten involved in fandom at all and maybe I never will if it's this biased. I don't think it's cool for one pairing to take over any fandom.

It's not just fandom that has embraced Shizaya, though. At DragonCon this year I was able to buy a Shizaya t-shirt and keychain. I only saw one Celty shirt and not much for other characters. The merchandise people know what will sell.

Agreed. I have nothing against the ship's existence or people who ship it or anything like that, but Shizaya's not my thing at all, and the ratio of Sizaya : everything else being so imbalanced has been prohibitive to me even considering joining the fandom. On pixiv I can find Shinra/Celty art to make me happy, but I've poked around a little and there's not much to be found in the way of not-Shizaya fic and art in the Western fandom. Also not a single R18 Shinra/Celty doujinshi ;~;

I really enjoyed the series, so this is a bit saddening to me tbh. If there was more Shinra/Celty, Walker/Erika, and/or Izaya/Namie to be had in the fandom, I'd probably participate.

I silently watch the fandom for screencaps, icons and maybe some merch that's coming out. Other than that, your reasons are the same as mine for never actually getting into that fandom.

I love this series, but I don't go near the fandom, mostly for the same reasons. I just don't care about Shizaya.

So ehm you pretty much just took my thoughts and worded them precisely as I would have thought them. DRRR!! is by far my favorite series, but the fandom just turns me off like woah. I'll b'awww with you or something ♥

uff but srsly, if you want someone to fan with, you could deff message me or something ;____; I'd love to talk with someone who loves this series as much as I do.

I had no idea that Shizaya was THAT prevalent. I... tend to avoid it pretty well, actually. I knew it WAS prevalent, but I don't see the appeal myself.

Makes me want to re-work something I've been writing for fun for ages into something readable.
