...some of the worst former fundies in Evangelical Christianity are starting to wake up to the fact that this is not what the Bible says (nor what any of the other books the Romans left out of "the Bible" say, either).

Case in point, I recently saw a video where a former Evangelical preacher referred to the idea stated above as "legalism" and "idolatry." (And I would have stood up on my chair and cheered out loud, except I was in church, LOL.)

So. Yeah. There are small pockets of Christians who don't buy hook, line, and sinker the standard operating system of professing Christianity. Which basically is a pagan death-cult. The truth seems to be seeping into the mainstream, ever so slowly, though.

There are elements in the OT that are pulled from earlier mythologies. Mostly with the flood story, which has a host of Mesopotamian precursors.

This. The Noah-figures are pretty prevalent across a lot of older religions. Practically the whole Bible is a rip-off. The idea of a ressurected Messiah, for example, was used & abused long before Christianity. But I'm assuming you know that - it's just nice to know others know it too.

That means before Christianity was introduced to the area not before Christianity was conceived of.

Christianity didn't really get popular around there until... 7th or 8th century CE I think?

Vikings didn't even exist until well in to AD. Looking up it's actually the 8th to 11th century so I was actually early.

IIRC, the most of the written "Norse myths" that we have records for aren't in their original form; they're from after Chirstian influences arrived in the area.

Almost everything we now know about Norse mythology comes from a Christian writer recording what he found out from the few Norse pagans that remained after Christianity had mostly swept through Scandanavia. There is know way of knowing how much of what he wrote was actually believed in those times.
