If you want to see myths and legends done right, you pretty much just have to read books that are about those myths and only those myths with no frills. Most storytellers are more interested in using elements of myths to suit their own storytelling rather than creating a story about those myths. I don't think it's wrong, but it's annoying if you like the original.

On topic:
Yeah. Films bend things all the time, either to make it flow better (or worse, depends), or just because they want to. Hollywood's not there to be correct or educational, it's there to entertain.
If you want accurate Norse mythology, your best bet's looking for a documentary. (Which... I actually find entertaining most the time. As long as the narrator's not droning.)
