Well, for a start, blame the comics, not the movie. (I've not read them either but I know the film is going from them.) I love Norse mythology, and have studied it, and my interest is why I saw the movie, but I just shrugged pff the fact that it was mostly nothing to do with those stories via the 'aliens' explanation. Plus I'm a sucker for any sort of retelling of myth, as long as the retelling is also a good yarn. I can see how you might see things differently if it was actually your religion, but really, given the amount of times things have been retold and given how murky our knowledge of what people actually thought about it all in the first place is, I think it's probably a little late to get annoyed by it.
