You have to go to a show. Watching it by yourself is NOT the same. Trust me. I watched it by myself first and had a really hard time understanding why people love it. Then I went to a midnight show at my university and had the greatest time. The experience is what makes it.

Or it could be the opposite. I found the people at the show obnoxious and pushy (I literally had to threaten violence to keep them from coming at me to be a "V" on my forehead; they wouldn't take no for an answer and kept coming towards me), and some guys use it as an excuse to grope at women. My friends had to move because the guy in the row behind them keep touching them (different show and location from my incident, mind).

I really hated my experience at RHPS as well but watching the movie by yourself at home is even more boring

Geez, I'm sorry to hear that. :/ The people at my show were incredible. They were fun, polite and accepting of everyone. So it probably can really depend on where you go. And I realize some people would just hate being in that kind of environment. It's loud and everyone is expected to participate, and if you're not prepared to dive into it there's no point in going. It's not for everyone.

I'm glad to hear your experience was a fun one. I went just the once, and hadn't heard favorable reports from my friends' experiences.

But I agree; normally it's the communal experience of such cult classics that make it. Like, sometimes it's really fandom that makes me like a show so much. It just wouldn't be as fun watching it by myself.

That's really a shame. My first experience was with the cast in Boston and I had a blast. But then again, it tends to be a great town all together.

That's why I can't enjoy it. Because I can't enjoy that kind of experience unless I'm already a fan of the thing. For me, the thing makes the experience fun, the experience doesn't make the thing fun. Going to a RHPS showing would just be watching a bad movie in an awkward, uncomfortable environment.

My thoughts exactly. I've always heard "the experience is what makes it good" for RHPS, and while I haven't seen the actual movie yet, I don't know if I would see it first at a showing. Which is an interesting conundrum. I love community experiences for film showings (the Can't Stop the Serenity screenings I go to every year are ridiculously amazing) but if I wasn't familiar with the actual film...

Exactly. Rocky Horror is best done in a large audience with costumes and props!
