(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)I ended up leaving most of the fandoms I was in because the more in-shape and active I got, the more nasty, hostile, and toxic people in fandom I knew got. And they weren't fat, either. At most they were a little chunky, but they were desperately out of shape and they knew it. So the more I stuck to my lifestyle changes the more they tried to make me feel bad for them and make me stop.
This is why I tend to look slitty-eyed at the fat acceptance movement because too often it's just a veil for toxic people. They aren't actually interested in our crazy body images and issues, they just want to tear down people making changes. It's like crabs in a bucket.
So I'd be careful about bring up your change in lifestyle and decision to become healthier because a lot of fandom people will not be supportive and will in fact actively try to make you feel bad for it.
