see the thing is, the paradox couldn't be sustained. The TARDIS managed to support one once - by being massively torn apart and rebuilt by the Master into a mockery of what she should have been, and by fucking time up beyond belief (LotTL)

Which would you choose? Which would you save? No, this isn't nice or fair, but a situation like this can't be. And sometimes the only thing you can do is take the path of least evil - she never would have existed, but she also never would have suffered and never lost those years with Rory. And yes, lying to her was a dick move, but given that she would never have even considered helping herself without the illusion of a chance.... again. not right, not fair, but there is no right or fair choice in this situation.

Either she never exists, or she suffers, alone and hunted for forty years. Go one. Pick one.

Even Amy herself acknowledged there was no other way at the end. It's WHY it was so heartbreaking. She knew it coudlnt' be, it couldn't happen, but if Rory had opened that door she would have gone screaming and kicking for any chance, even if it never could be.
