I definitely tend to fill in details for minor characters with my own likes and stuff. I haven't done it for sexual history, but things like favorite foods and activities and stuff. It's just a fun way to write what you know. As long as it doesn't turn into blatant self-insert, more luck to ya.

Oh hell, I give major characters my own quirks if there's nothing in canon to dispute them. Especially if I already share canon details with them.
