You've obviously never been called a nigger, faggot, dyke, or any other racially/sexually/culturally insensitive word. ***blood is in the same boat as those words.

da

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
so you censor mudblood

but... you don't censor the words that are actually offensive

okay then

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That was for emphasis.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2011-09-19 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
lmao my thoughts exactly. this person is obviously a leeeettle bit removed from reality.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Except it's not, because it's fictional. And pretending it is pretty offensive to people who actually have faced real life prejudice.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Just because it is fictional doesn't mean it is any less hurtful. Wizards have a long history of oppressing muggles and muggleborns (Salazar didn't even want them in the school!) and this word is an embodiment of the ignorance and oppression many muggleborns have faced. It's just as painful as the other hurtful words I listed above and just as damaging. Allowing people to say ***blood nonchalantly is enabling them to do the same with these other words, as it's an indicator of the person saying it -- they're insensitive to the power behind words.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I lol'd.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice debate skills there. Derailement, much?

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, were you seriously not joking? o___0

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
No. I wish you were. How is it hard to grasp that words mean things and they can hurt? ***blood is a word used to hurt a minority. It's a word that shouldn't be taken lightly, in our world or theirs.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
A FAKE minority that DOES NOT EXIST.

You have to be trolling. I can't imagine anyone is this actually this stupid. This is the kind of behavior that makes it difficult for people who actually care about social justice to be taken seriously.

Playing along

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually muggles are not the minority -- Wizards are.

Also playing along.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-19 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
A minority can still hurt other's with their grossly disproportionate privilege, for example, the wealthy are undeniably a minority, and are responsible for oodles and doodles of oppression IRL.

And in the meantime, I had to look up how to spell privilege. What am I, new?

Re: Also playing along.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-19 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not going to disagree with what you just said, but rather going to point out to you that what the other anon said (or you, whatever),

"***blood is a word used to hurt a minority."

Muggles aren't the minority -- Wizards are.

Just pointing out a mistake. You know, the addiction that f!S truly has.

"Just because it is fictional doesn't mean it is any less hurtful"

Actually, I think it means exactly that. Because it hasn't done any harm to anyone. Never.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
there are no wizards

hth

[identity profile] coffeebuddha.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Wizards have a long history of oppressing muggles and muggleborns

They have a fictional history, because it isn't real.

this word is an embodiment of the ignorance and oppression many muggleborns have faced.

No it isn't and they haven't, because the word, ignorance, oppression, and muggleborns are all fictional.

Allowing people to say ***blood nonchalantly is enabling them to do the same with these other words

No. If someone calls someone else any of those other words, then damn right I'm going to do my best to call them out and shut them down. If someone calls someone else a mudblood, then--unless they're seriously attempting to co-opt it as a legit insult against someone who's of mixed race or something--then I'm going to laugh and take it as a joke. You know why? Because Harry Potter ISN'T REAL.

Sorry, snowflake, but if your entire argument is that I should be upset because of someone using a word that's hurtful to people who don't actually exist, then I'm going to have to sit here and laugh at you. How about taking your self righteous anger and try to make a difference in a matter that's actually hurting real, living people? How about getting upset about the real world parallels to the 'mudblood oppression' and doing something to help change that instead?

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
i am laughing at you really hard ahhh HARRY POTTER FANDOM

[identity profile] websofseaweed.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, okay, I laughed pretty loudly at that one. If you're trolling, well done. If you aren't...then the world is an ever stupider place than I thought.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-19 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I'm convinced that you're still mad that you never got your letter to Hogwarts when you were 11. That you refer to people as "muggles" and believe that you have some wizard in you. Because the only way "mudblood" would ever be insulting to someone was if they were delusional and believed that the wizarding world was a real place.

[identity profile] a-better-thing.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god I am laughing so hard right now. You are truly the best troll, never ever change.

[identity profile] teacandles.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so I wasn't going to ay anything about this secret, but the absurdity of this comment is making my blood boil, particularly because I was accosted the other day with one of the words you used above.

Yes, I can see instances where 'mudblood' could be used as an insult (against those perceived of having lower blood/breeding/class/whatever), but that is likely to be uncommon and most likely used jokingly amongst kids who grew up on Harry Potter and are using it as a (stupid) reference to the books. To censor the damn thing and then use uncensored real insults that didn't fucking originate out of a children's book series is fucking insulting in and of itself.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-19 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Not the person you were talking to, but as someone who has been called one of those words, you can fuck right off with calling them equal.
People like you are who make it difficult when those of us who are called these words try to speak out because why take us seriously when there are people upset about a fucking book? (I say us because the way you are behaving gives me the impression you never have been and this is just a bout of self-righteousness or something).
I also love how MUDblood is too ~offensive to type out, but you have no problem typing out the rest.

NA

(Anonymous) 2011-09-19 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
My god, you're an asshole.
