It's become un-PC to fire the many women that are not fit for the job. Employers keep lazy or incompetent women just out of fear of being labelled a misogynist or some other bullshit label.

I am shocked, shocked, to discover this was written by an old, conservative, white guy. SHOCKED I SAY!

A website that accuses vaccination of causing "mental retardation" without any scientific evidence (http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/janak/110917) whatsoever implores women to take "real" sciences?

Oooookaaaaaaaay.

I remember when Ann Coulter accused the anti-vaccination crowd of being anti-science libruhls, and felt vaguely dirty because I was agreeing with Ann Coulter, for once... is anti-vaccination a Tea Party thing now? Because vaccinating little girls against cancer is immoral?

As Jon Stewart put it, Michelle Bachmann is pro choice, as long as that choice is cancer.

The best I can tell, because HPV is an STD, apparently vaccinating against it will encourage young girls to have sex. Because that's a totally logical conclusion. And also, we all know that girls having sex is THE WORST THING THOSE DIRTY SLUTS COULD DO. And obviously you can't get an STD once you're married either. So if those dirty whores just keep their legs shut until they've shackled themselves to a man and are procreating, they shouldn't need government mandated slut juice! (as Stephen Colbert called it)

Well, it's good to know the daughters of conservatives have an anti-rape force barrier for themselves, and an anti-affair force barrier for their husbands. Or are morally opposed to marrying a man who's already been married? Even if that wife died?

Honestly, you could live your entire life as chastely as humanly possible and still get HPV. They can't make this a religious issue, can they? They're basically telling their daughters "I'm sorry honey, I'm going to increase the chances that you'll die if you're ever sexually assaulted just in case this vaccine encourages you to have sex before marriage. Or marry a widower."

[identity profile] trenchkamen.livejournal.com 2011-09-18 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. That's exactly 100% the argument I heard when I was in Texas for a bit.

Also, if rape happens, it's God's will.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I live in Texas, and I can't honestly say I've heard that one. Heard a lot of stupid shit, just not that.

[identity profile] lashiec.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I haven't heard that bit either. Granted, Texas has the WORST cases of blaming victims of rape that I've seen.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-19 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I got it the very first time. With a condom. The real kicker is I'd never even heard of HPV and whether or not I'd been vaccinated wouldn't have made a bit of difference. People like Bachman are so stupid I could punch them.

We risk making young women angry at nothing, for one. And, with that anger, we risk making those same women seem unhinged or out of touch with reality as they angrily stomp about campuses across the country protesting against something few perceive as a problem at all.

Damn that feminism, making women uppity and hysterical.

And by arguing against something that cannot even be proven statistically, logically or in any other way, these poor young women risk alienating themselves from the very society they claim they are fighting to join.

Really? Not statistically, or logically? Where's your female president? What statistical percentage of women are CEOs, or members of Congress? What statistical percentage of the world's wealth is owned by women? (Hint: it's less than ten percent.) Fact: women are still banned from some professions based on their gender alone, such as frontline infantry.

No, feminism has become as much a thing of the past as rotary phones or buggy whips. It's time to move on, girls. Join the men as leaders of the nation, not as spoiled, half-educated whiners, would ya?

Mmmm, I love the smell of condescension in the morning. If he's going to get all utilitarian on college degrees, what's the point of philosophy? History? Even theoretical physics? They don't "produce" anything. And if "knowledge for knowledge's sake" is a valid answer, it's a valid answer for the social sciences, too.

Besides, conservatives love quoting the findings of, as he puts it, the 'social "sciences"' - as long as those findings agree with them. They do it all the time! Without all of those "studies", how would you prove gay marriage was dangerous for children, or that women aren't fit for combat roles?

That line makes me so ferociously angry; I am beside myself. It's unsurprising that a white cisgendered conservative male doesn't recognise his privilege.

lol r u srs

(Anonymous) 2011-09-18 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
And this is in what way connected to "feminism is dangerous"? As in "equal rights for women are dangerous".

See, if anyone fires any minority people will always scream it was because of racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic reasons. So according to you LGTB rights and anti-racism campaigns are "dangerous" as well?

Make up your mind.
