I was JUST talking about this yesterday with my friend. I thought his name was Zelda for the longest time because the games (Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask) follow HIS freaking life.

Well, I read the guide books obessively before I even started playing, but yeah, Majora's Mask is... confusingly titled. Zelda appears in it for ONE CUTSCENE. Which is a flashback! How is that the Legend of Zelda, exactly? XD Or Link's Awakening - she doesn't even appear in that. And, frankly, she doesn't actually have huge amounts to do with the plot in Twilight Princess, either. It might as well be called Legend of Midna.

When I was a kid and didn't know crap about the series, I'd always name him Zelda in the Gameboy games. It confused the hell out of me when I got 'net savvy later in life.

I love the idea of a male character being named Zelda. It makes me wonder - if Link's name had been Zelda, I wonder if that would have made Zelda a more culturally acceptable name for a boy?

Zelda isn't a common name, but it isn't an overly strange name either. I know of a couple of Zeldas, but they are all female. Sadly, I don't know any Links...though I've always liked the name.

When we got our NES back in 1989 or whenever, and I first put in the Duck Hunt/Mario cartridge early on Christmas morning, for like five minutes I thought Super Mario Bros. was actually Duck Hunt and that the Goombas were supposed to be ducks. I thought their bodies were actually the bill of the duck's head, and that they were like, little duck heads running back and forth across the screen. 8-BIT MEMORIES

Ha! I admit I thought his name was Zelda too. But that was when I was 10. And then I got confused why people said his name was Link because "A Link to the Past" didn't make sense. I don't think that way now though.
