And that's the entire point. She hates men because Todd doesn't want her and ties up/chloroforms other guys she's annoyed with, is on Team Edward, threw her morals away to get power in Kickassia and Lindsay can't stand the Real Women Never Wear Dresses attitude the character has.

This, basically. Nostalgia Chick is a character, something that people forget, I think.

Exactly what you said! Actor =/= character, TGWTG watchers and fans tend to forget this a lot. Nostalgia Critic is obviously far angrier and exaggerated in the negative traits for comedic purposes than Doug himself, and same goes for Nostalgia Chick essentially.

Yep; I think people forget more for Chick because the Critic is definitely REALLY exaggerated, especially compared to the vids he does out of character. The Chick is a lot more subtle of a difference from Lindsay, so I think it makes sense that people would forget.

When people need to explain the point of a character, it probably means the character isn't all that good to begin with.

But this is a fandom that constantly needs reminding that character =\= actor, even when the character would be dead or jailed IRL.

So is knowing all this dependent on watching every video she appears in on the site or what? I only watch the Nostalgia Chick videos and I've never picked up on any of this. Maybe I'm an idiot but I haven't even heard of half of the people you're talking about. Is this a Dark Nella Saga thing? I didn't watch that.

I'm asking if there are videos on other portions of the site that she's in that I have to be watching to be aware of all these ~character intricacies~. I only watch Nostalgia Chick and Paw's Music Movies and sometimes JesuOtaku. I've watched MOST of the Nostalgia Chick videos and I'm wondering if all of this ~characterization~ is in the like four videos I haven't watched.

idk man when I first got pointed to that site I wasn't expecting all of this ~vast sprawling canon~ from dudes who imitate homeless people with mental illnesses.

For one, the Nostalgia Chick is not Lindsay Ellis herself; if you look at pretty much every reviewer character on the site, male or female, they're satirically over-the-top and harsh to what they review.

And for another - which I'm sure I'll be crucified for saying - being a feminist doesn't mean you have to unconditionally and unquestioningly love every female character in existence. In fact, unless I'm very much mistaken, Nostalgia Chick usually makes a point to highlight the poor writing choices and/or historical circumstances that led to the creation of characters she has a problem with, which, uh, is pretty much a key point in a lot of feminist literary/film critique.

She pretty much hates everyone, especially fanboys and fangirls. Men are horrible and women are usually too weak and ditzy.

People might be bringing this up because the OP sounds like they don't realize the Nostalgia Chick is a deliberately created character with a very specific purpose.

Also, I'm not sure how you'd want to quantify "being harder" on characters based on their gender. The Chick mainly does reviews of girls' shows/movies, which are known for having a higher percentage of prominent female characters, so there's that to consider. I suppose I could add that I've yet to not see her call a spade a spade when there's a guy character involved, but given that "being hard" on someone can be difficult to quantify, you might disagree.

Of course you're not. It's just people enjoy accentuating the negative.

Seriously. What is up with fandom and that? It's much funner to enjoy than it is to nitpick. Yeah, some of her reviews aren't as great, but I still love them! I love that Todd and her are such ridiculous caricatures in their shows, but in real life they're actually adorbs.

I <3 that too, and it's interesting that they've established that the Chick's thing for Todd isn't love, just an obsession. All the TGWTG people are wonderful and I think, even if you dislike a video, you should at least appreciate the effort that went into it. (Looking at you, entitled "fans" who thought the Critic's LP was the worst thing in humanity.)
