It bothers me less that Tonks and Remus had a kid during wartime than the fact that FUCKING EVERYONE found their most heteronormative counterpart and had a fuckton of kids. (Except maybe Luna. But you know she was crazy, so.)

Sorry, I just hate that epilogue :/

[identity profile] dark-branwen.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's been confirmed Luna later found some random dude named Rolf and had twins. Lysander and Lorcan. But I that's that special soft kind of canon where I like to stick my fingers in my ears and god, "LALALALALANOTLISTENING."

I wanna say maybe Neville was never shown to be married or have babies, but it's entirely possible I missed his heteronormative ending.

[identity profile] oaktree89.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, really? Christ, it seriously is fucking everyone that had a billion babbys :/

[identity profile] dark-branwen.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't think anyone went the Arthur/Molly route of, "Let's see how many babies we can have before our house collapses," but altogether, it's a lot of kids.

Now I feel the need to figure out all of them.

Harry/Ginny - James, Albus, and Lily
Ron/Hermione - Rose and Hugo
Draco/Astoria - Scorpius
Luna/Rolf - Lysander and Lorcan
Bill/Fleur - Victoire, Dominique, and Louis
George/Angelina - Fred and Roxanne
Percy/Audrey - Molly and Lucy
Remus/Tonks - Teddy

Those are the only ones confirmed as of now. I'm sure JKR will provide us with still more children with the rise of Pottermore, heh.

I do like that Luna found love outside of her class at school, and has a guy who she can go off and have crazy adventures with. I side-eye the twins' existence, but I really like their names...

Neville definitely wasn't shown to have kids in the book. Rowling said in one interview that he had a relationship with a woman from his class at Hogwarts that he didn't know very well back then (I want to say Hannah Abbot?) but I don't remember if she was his wife. She's also said Charlie didn't have any kids, and Hagrid never married, but that's a different generation...

[identity profile] dark-branwen.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
I like to think Charlie didn't have kids because Charlie couldn't marry dragons. xD

The only problem I have with Neville being the only one who doesn't end up with a wife and/or kids, is that it would have the unfortunate implication of Neville being the 'loser' who once again gets shit on for no apparent reason other than him being Neville Longbottom.

Not that Neville couldn't be happy without a wife and kids, but in JRK's world it seems that way.

Neville DOES get married though, to Hannah Abbot, I don't think they ever had kids but he definitely got married.

He marries Hannah Abbot, I don't think they had kids, though.

I don't really have a dog in this fight, and I get your problem with it, but - a fuckton? If I recall correctly, Draco and his wife had one, Harry and Ginny had three, and Ron and Hermione had, what, two? Three? 1-3 children per couple is hardly "a fuckton".

[identity profile] dark-branwen.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
I actually read that as collectively, it was a fuckton of children. And when you consider JKR's later comments that tell you just how many kids every single person had, it does resemble a fuckton.

[identity profile] oaktree89.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, I guess it feels like all those 2.5 kids add up to a lot. And I am bitter about the heteronormativity :/

[identity profile] sleepscribbling.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
You definitely have a point. I think it's the whole "One Big Happy Weasley Family" idea that gets them perceived as a ton of kids, because if you count Teddy in because he's Harry's godson, that's seven kids growing up together.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-20 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I see your problem but I think it would have been worse if she ended it otherwise. As in, this is something she should have needed to deal with from earlier in the books. Like, all the people mentioned in the epilogue she had been setting up that way since earlier, it wasn't like it all happened after the war. I would be more offended if she changed some of that because it would feel like she only put it in as a twist ending rather than a showcase of a regular relationship. Unless you just mean why couldn't some of them be left single or childfree then IA with you
But I kind of take it back because yeah the trio, george, bill, draco but for instance Percy was vague enough throughout the books that he could have had a different ending. Although on the other hand when you think about it it's not everyone- you have people like I mean Neville who is main character and Charlie who is a Weasley aren't happily paired up and kiddied and when you really look at it it's not really everrrrryone so idk

Conflicted...I know this probably made no sense. I think my point is that all the people that we see paired up and with child in the end were headed there- if she had changed it then it would have seemed like pandering. so maybe she could have started the whole thing a bit less traditionally back in book 1. although tbh HP is not who I look to for this sort of thing. So I think agree with you, but I don't think it's the epilogue's fault and I wasn't surprised or upset.

Actually, I think the only couple that was really worked through in a decent manner was Ron/Hermione (even if one doesn't like it, it was properly foreshadowed, the two of them were close and the attraction was gradually shown through jealousy and misunderstandings). Harry/Ginny was sloppy and tacked-on, and the rest was more or less "yeah, these people got married and had children".

What I would have liked was for Harry to realise that he already had the family he'd been looking for. His friends, the Weasley family, all the bonds he'd made during his time at Hogwarts which had turned into his true home over the years.

IM R/Hr was long overdrawn and I hated it, it just dragged to much and both of them were annoying as hell because of it. People may say it was done properly and worked but not for me. H/G was fine cause it was foreshadowed since book 2, I could see the attraction and that light bulb moment and then how they worked and how much fun they had - which is how things happen to me myself none of that omg let's sit here with our feelings for years and be twats about it and I still don't know why they like each other.
There are other ways relationships happen basically.
