I agree about the baby obsession - not everyone needs to spawn to make their life complete, JKR! - but I always thought Remus and Tonks didn't *plan* to have a baby. Perhaps the magical birth control required continuous topping up and they forgot about it with everything that was going on? Or maybe it didn't work properly because of Lupin's werewolfism? Then it comes down to them choosing to keep it rather than deliberately having one in the first place, which I agree is still a perhaps bizarre decision, but maybe not *as* bizarre. People seem to get attached to the idea of offspring remarkably quickly once the issue has been raised (so to speak), even if the circumstances are inappropriate - I'm glad my parents felt this way, for instance :D
