I've never understood this. I love it when things I like get more attention. It means I have more people to share my enjoyment with, more fanfiction, more art, more fantheories, (I'm not much of a shipper but one could say more people to share your ship with). It makes whatever it is last longer, grow larger, and even if it ends canonically, the experience doesn't. Also, if it's not something that's ended already, the attention (and possibly money) will be likely to make the creator keep on creating and giving, so you as an individual will receive more of what you love. (unless the quality goes down as demands are higher or passion gives out, which sucks when it happens.)

If you're not that way, though, just ignore the fandom and enjoy it by yourself, I suppose :)

This is exactly how I feel. I would absolutely love it if some of my favourite series, movies etc. were more popular. It sucks when you really want to talk about something but there's nobody around or when you want to read fics but can't find anything.

Yeah, pretty much this. I'm in my share of big fandoms, but there are so many obscure or just old and half-forgotten shows which I just wish got more fannish love.

This.

Same. I'd kill for bigger fandoms for a lot of the shows/games/media I love.

This. I wish some of the things I loved had bigger fandoms. Even if I don't usually participate very much, I'm always willing to talk about it and read fic and draw fanart. Problem is, sometimes there's just... Nothing. Maybe someone decides to upload one fic to FF.net once in a couple months, but that's about it.
And exactly, it's not like fandom's forced onto you.

This, exactly. It's also why I recommend my favorite fanfic (http://archiveofourown.org/works/164669/chapters/239418) as often as I can, because I want to bring more people into it so they can experience the same joy that I did when I first read it. On a fandom-specific note, It's why I got two of my roommates to watch ATLA with me, because watching someone see it for the first time is a glorious thing. (Oh hey, any veterans of Mark Watches Avatar out there? That was also glorious for the same reason)
