OK, seriously. The way you got to that revelation is not nearly as important than having gotten there. Because those ARE legitimate concerns that bear thinking about, even if at the end you still support Assange wholeheartedly. (And for what it's worth, I kind of think part of fiction's JOB is not only to entertain but also to have some affect on how we view the world around us, so really there's no shame in this secret at all.)

I agree. It's easier to show different facets of an issue in fiction, I think, compared to how things are framed by media in real life, and how our viewpoints on real things are reinforced by real world motivations. Sympathizing with the villain of a story is seen differently than sympathizing with a real person who does horrible things. But the examination of those things in fiction can help us see around those RL biases. It's easy in real life to say "fuck the government, information should be free!" and see them as some faceless evil entity, but when you think about characters who are keeping secrets for good reasons, it's easier to understand.

Thank you.

It's easy to forget that when so much fiction these days really is just mindless entertainment and if it also happens to be smart, that's a bonus but...

Well, not to outright bring religion into anything, but that's why Jesus used parables--a fictional story that puts an issue into a smaller perspective. Buddhist stories too. It's not so much important if something is real, it's how it makes you look at the world around you.
