well technically, since straight = heterosexual = hetero + sex, it's being attracted to the same sex, not gender. of course, definitions change and adapt, and currently sexual orientation refers to the sex AND/OR gender you are oriented towards. some people like the gender and sex/sexual organs to match up. some people only care about gender. etc.

and a fetish is the need for any non-sexual organs. since a cock (or a vulva/vagina) is a sexual organ, someone who is oriented towards those is not automatically a fetishist.

I sometimes wonder for how many straight/gay people it is actually about the gender and for how many it is about physical organs and for how many it is both.

OK I'm gonna have to disagree with this. Often people's orientation includes the physical aspect as much as the emotional. For many, sex is an important part of a relationship. So yes, a lack of penis would be a problem.

Now if the OP had said something like "I am only attracted to men with penis that look like *enter particular style*", that would be one thing. But last time I checked people didn't go around demanding that potential romantic or sexual partners drop their pants before, you know, being attracted to someone.
