Wait. "Ships", as in "pairings you root for", or "ships", as in "nautical vessels"? And how does drawing help you "arm them" better?

All I can think is if the OP likes sort of rare ships, if s/he draws fanart for them, it'll better help convince people to look into those pairings?

OP here. That's the one. Firing balled-up drawings on actual vessels was never very effective. (Kinda pisses off surfers, though).

I kind of want to be linked to your art. :) Fanart is the reason I'm an artist today. It's how I keep my hand in, try out new techniques, and I love to make my friends happy by drawing for them.

I'm flabbergasted that the meaning of this secret wasn't immediately apparent.

The words "ship" and "arm" made think of someone preparing a warship to fight. Too literal, I guess.

I've never been convinced into a ship by fanart (in fact, most fanart is so shitty it's a turnoff), so I had no clue why art would be equated with weapons.

Same here, same here! I really like some rare pairings and there's barely any fanwork for them which is why I try my best to create stuff to the best of my ability.

True fact: I started writing fanfics, and now I'm a little more excited each day. I can even concentrate on my work better. I'm glad your drawings keep you motivated!

OP again: just saying thanks. I didn't think a secret about my dodgy motivation would get any sympathy, but you all made me grin a lot. When I'm paddling my tiny internet boat about, trying to scupper better-equipped ships, I'll be thinking of you.

Same here, I started doing manips with Kirk/McCoy and later on drawings for some pairings, because I loved selling them via visuals :)
