Urgh, anime guys (and girls) can be really creepy. There was this guy in my HS anime club that had a doll of his waifu and he'd carry it 24/7

lolwhut :O I'm glad I never met such a person! The worst my HS anime club had were obnoxious guys who never showered, though one of those guys was confused on why I didn't want to be his BFF despite him being a creeper. Most anime fans I know who are over eighteen are pretty okay, though some are just...whut no, you're not a thirteen year old J-pop idol or a ninja, please stop.

A lot of 2-Dcons are bitter cynics, but some have just given up at the thought of any 3-D girl being interested in 'em. Go for it and good luck.

Yeah, pretty much this. There was a time when you would've heard me talking about how much more sense it made to pursue fictional than real relationships. That was after breaking up with an abusive RL girlfriend. A lot of what you heard from me then was me hiding my heart from the pain.

I used to be only into 2D guys. Then I got a crush on a real guy and now I have a pretty awesome boyfriend. Now your dude might be the creepy kind or whatever, I don't know, but maybe don't write him off so quickly. :)

Yeah, whether or not he likes 2D girls is pretty much irrelevant if he is also okay with a healthy, realistic relationship with a real person. That's the important question.

I hate how judgmental f!s is being about people who have waifus. So they get off to one character instead of a whole bunch. So what? So they're happy with a crush on a fictional character and their imagination instead of a real lover. If they are, more power to them - relationships are often not worth all the heartbreak.

Maybe you shouldn't date them because they're "taken" in a way, but it doesn't mean they're some kind of inferior, horrible, delusional person for it. They're well aware their waifu isn't real.

Oh man, there's a manga about this (a chapter from the series Franken Fran). There's a good-looking actor whose only interest is in an anime character, so a co-worker in love with him goes under the knife several times to "perfect" a 2D-look. You get darkly humorous descriptions of what's happening before and during each operation ("Removing cartilage from the nose bridge!" "Suctioning fat out from the cheeks!" "Teeth are replaced by a single white plate...The balance between your head and your body will be thrown off, as well..."). The actor finally falls for her when co-worker becomes huge-eyed, thin-limbed, and frail... but the stresses she's been under causes side effects that exaggerate all of the above, so when she steps out of the shower to consummate their relationship, he mistakes her for a Grey-style alien and freaks the hell out.

It is sort of fantastic.

Having a waifu in itself is not a problem, but if he's the kind of guy you might find on 4chan whining "3DPD" and "all women are bitches and whores", forget it, that kind of relationship won't go anywhere.

I was probably gonna say a much wordier version of this, so IAWTC.
I think the "goes on and on about being only interested in 2D girls" part of the secret sets off the biggest warning bells for me that he is probably a 3DPD type, and an RL relationship with a person like that sounds really unhealthy.

Still, OP, we don't know this person. If he seems receptive, there's nothing wrong with dating a guy who likes 2D women too, because 2D women were pretty much created to be a perfect fantasy. But he should seem like good relationship material as well if you're gonna pursue this.

Sounds like you've got good common sense about it.

But I can't help thinking he might change his tune if he knew a real girl were interested in him. We don't know how/why he came to having this attitude. Could be from constant rejection or bad dating experiences. It could be mostly talk, is what I'm saying.

Though if the pic is related, and Bel Dandy is his waifu; then he's possibly deluded himself into thinking he deserves some perfect, subservient goddess figure. Not healthy at all.

*shrug* It's your call. You should be loved for you, not for who you could be a substitute for.

Give it time. He'll eventually grow out of it, assuming he's fairly young- like, under twenty-one...

If it doesn't look like it's going to work out, then don't worry about it. Just be his friend. Maybe it's something that could happen, and maybe it's not, but friendship is something too valuable to be thrown away on terms of crushes and stuff. That said, I say I'm only interested in 2D guys all the time. It's more of a hyperbolic expression than anything else. The reals ones are hot too.
