But... I always thought that the ^_^ was the eyes closed, yaknow? This is more like ^_^, and her eyes aren't really opened, but they're not really closed either... It's creepy to me. Maybe it's an uncanny valley thing? >__>;;

This kind of makes me sad. I'm Asian and my eyes are on the small side, so when I smile they do the "eye smile" thing. I can see perfectly fine, but they do look a bit open, but not quite closed. I used to get teased in school about it by kids asking if my eyes were closed or if I could see at all. :(

I'm sorry. :( I have some friends who smile like this, and it looks really nice on them, but for some reason this picture of this person is seriously creeping me out. :(

Those kids were being stupid about it. There is nothing wrong with an "eye smile". A sincere smile is a sincere smile, they light up your face and anyone who thinks something like that is worth teasing someone over it likely has some body issues or peer-pressure oh-please-accept-me-i'm-cool-you-guys-see-i-make-the-same-lame-jokes-you-make issues of their own.

You sound like a lovely person, anon and I see nothing wrong with you having a smile like that.

Really? I find hers more genuine than others I've seen. I guess it depends on what exactly registers as genuine or fake with each person.

Hm, you must not have many Asian friends. There's a reason why this (^_^) is an Asian emoticon. It's because the "eye-smile" does occur naturally for a lot of Asians.

i think her smile looks cuter in motion (on stage, in videos or interviews, etc) than it does when she poses. but i think that's common for a lot of people.
