Okay, seriously, I shipped Harry/Snape like whoa, because I think they have a ton in common and never actually realized it. I think that, if Snape had survived, they could've become a sort of friends because there is a ton of stuff they've both gone through that most people, even the rest of Harry's friends, haven't (or at least people who meet every so often, never say anything to each other, and just quietly get drunk in the company of somebody who gets it).

But if you actually think a romantic relationship would've really happened, I'm just going to have to laugh at you.

A++ to all of this. They're my ultimate OTP, but I like them because they would never happen within canon. My favorite fics are always ages long, obscenely well-developed, and usually tragic. They hardly work any other way.
