I know a fair amount about Judaism (I used to be Orthodox, though I didn't study nearly as much as some people) but I can't come up with a simple answer of how it would relate to bending.

I think I can work some stuff about the other world and reincarnation in there though.

Maybe you can draw some sort of connection between firebending and the flaming sword guarding the path to Eden?

Though, tbh, there's a lot of stuff in Jewish history that has people mucking with the elements - Moses split the sea, Elijah threw fireballs, Rabbi Eliezer knocked down walls, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai burned stuff, Miriam had a well following her....
Maybe it could be kind of an AU type of Judaism? The entire Avatar world is AU anyway.

Oh! Another thing this could be tied into - there's a mystical description of the world, that says that the world stands on pillars, the pillars stand on water, the water stands on mountains, the mountains stand on the wind, and the wind is a storm. This does give earth, wind, and water, only fire is missing.

If anything, the Jews could be some kind a group that's not really tied down to one element, which would make them pretty outcast in the Avatar world. The only question is if it wouldn't be making them too "special".

Wow, I don't even remember hearing that. I should look it up. (My ex-husband probably knows.) And I'm sure there are stories about fire out there -- usually as a destructive force from what I remember.

Well, if the individuals had power over more than one element like the Avatar does, I think that would be making them too special. But maybe if they just were outsiders who sometimes had different kinds of benders born among them... I don't think that would be too bad. Especially if they didn't have any more powers than anyone else.

I'm definitely going to think about this.

I meant more that they're a group that has all the elements, but each individual has affinity only with one. Not like the Fire Nation who are all fire benders, etc.

There's a lot about fire, and definitely not all destructive. Angels are commonly associated with fire. When the Israelites were in the desert, they were led by a pillar of cloud during the day, and a pillar of fire at night. Like I said, a lot of prophets called down fire. I just meant that in that specific description I gave (which is one I'm personally quite fond of), fire's lacking.

You know, speaking of the Avatar - right every regeneration, the Avatar comes from a different one of the Four Nations? So it could be an interesting thing to play with, having this "fifth nation" that isn't in on the Avatar shtick.

I do hope you write something, I'd love to read it! I think it could be a really interesting take on the world. Obviously, I'm a bit biased, but wth XD

Actually I really do want to. Not sure if I'll go for Cabbage Guy, King Bumi, or both, but I do!

I'm busy for the next week with trying to study for my CNA exam, but I'll be kicking it around in my head... ;)
