But there's a legit tradition of the "what if?" premise in fiction. Of course you can't use questions in academic writing and professional fiction usually doesn't acknowledge the reader (though some fiction does this very well). But what's wrong with including your premise in a summary?

I don't know. But I do know if you start a query letter with a question, agents are far more likely to discard than to keep reading. :/
