Or when there's more than one fic, but they were all clearly written by the same person/follow an element of the kink that's not really what you're into.

There's a lot of it in a kind of golden showers way and a lot of it in a controlled by a partner way, but I'm more into the element of humiliation and loss of control, ie. Just couldn't hold it any longer.

With some of the more popular kinks, you can get way more specific with a prompt, but you're lucky to get "Bob/Mary: Watersports" written...forget "Bob/Mary: [insert specific kind of WS interest here]"

It bums me out that this is a kink with neither quantity nor quality, for the most part, at least.

(DA) So much word. There are different elements/expressions to it as a kink, some of which then start blurring into other kinks - one umbrella term isn't really adequate.

(and a weird thing is, when it does get written - in my fandom, at least - it gets a fairly good response. There are a reasonable number of people who like it, so why is it so rarely prompted?)

Exactly! I've seen average written common kinks get less response than an poorly written WS fic. People actually read it and enjoy it--and there are always plenty of "Didn't think this was my kink, but this was HOT" Or "I think I have a new kink now" comments on well-written ones. It's a much more common fetish than one would think; it's just not as openly discussed.

There are so many elements: golden showers, desperation play, humiliation, piss-drinking, etc...one could be totally hot and another could be totally squickish to the same person.

I find two of those totally hot and two meh-to-squicky. The physical - sensation, scent, taste - interests me not at all, but the mental - humiliation, degradation, control - I'm v drawn to. In my (limited) experience, most written WS falls into the former camp, unfortunately for me.

And now I want a bingo square of different WS types :(

Same here. I'm WAY more into the loss of control than I am the piss drinking/golden showers. (Way more into someone pissing their pants than someone pissing on someone else.) And you're right that it almost always falls into the "please pee all over me" category.

See, I'm totally into the golden showers part of it! (For the basic primal dominance of it) From what I'e seen, it's usually 50/50 split because there are only TWO FILLED prompts AT MOST and one gets one and one the other, ha ha.

The loss of control aspect isn't my thing at all but I still read all of it because there's so little to go around. :( IIRC, kinkme_merlin had a few that you and other anon might be interested in? And collarkink (though that was less 'sexy' and more 'accident'). The SPN kink meme was mentioned way upthread as having a lot of WS in general, but I haven't read there in a long time and can't remember which way it leaned.

I've read the ones on the Merlin kink meme. The one about Arthur making Merlin hold it in the hopes that Merlin will show him his magic gets me going EVERY TIME. (It's in my super secret bookmarks folder of my favorite WS fics...and I don't even watch Merlin.)

The SPN kink meme has a lot of golden showers/dominance stuff. Again, don't actually watch SPN, but there are a couple of members of the fandom who write a lot of it...annabeth is one, although she doesn't write it as much anymore, I don't think, and lazy_daze. annabeth has a SPN rec post on her journal--it's a sticky post. (I just looked that up, by the way, I didn't just know that off the top of my head.)

These are my fics in my "super secret gets anon off" folder. Not all are desperation, but all are WS. (Some have a degree of infantilism, although that's really not one of my kinks, it's one of the buzz words I use to get to fics involving wetting.)

The HP one I've read and agree upon the supreme button-pushing abilities of it. And speaking of buzz words, omorashi is the Japanese word for desperation kink. Searching it almost never gets me tips on windsurfing, and there is something to be said for that.

In my experience, those are the fics that tend to get the most comments along the lines of "I never knew this was so hot until I read this," but most people hear "watersports" and instantly think of golden showers. And, I have NOTHING against golden showers at all, but my interest in the kink comes from a different place.
