He doesn't get the whole dating things when John tries to explain it to him...

I really think he was just feigning thickness because he was mad at John for actually attempting to have a social life. It makes me laugh every time I watch that episode because he throws such a big sulk when John acts like he wants to have a real life.

Sure, he wasn't genuinely ignorant about it, but you could take it as a hint that he's not the type to personally understand the appeal. If you wanted to.

Very true. Which is just the point. Until it's really stated, fans are free to take it either way. No one is wrong until canon says "Hey, you're wrong." so I think people should just think of him as they please and keep it moving. No need for anger and such.

This. Also, you can not understand dating but want a relationship (not saying he does, but these things aren't mutually exclusive). I don't "date" in the strict sense of the word, either.

I'm not saying that. I'm not even saying he's asexual. It's just a comment that seems to imply that he wouldn't see the point of adding sex to an otherwise perfectly enjoyable evening.

I thought asexual people were obsessed with the fact that they CAN go on dates, fall in love, etc. How is this proof?

1) The secret isn't insisting there isn't "proof," it's insisting there isn't the slightest suggestion in the least which is not the same as proof - I'm not arguing one way or the other, I'm just saying that the show is arguably suggestive of that even if Sherlock isn't overtly asexual.

2) The dialogue in question suggests that Sherlock would be interested in dating if the common definition were expanded - Nothing I said contradicts that.
