Look, I'm not going to tell you "don't lose weight" because that is none of my business. At all. Go for it, especially if you do healthfully and without starvation or a fad diet.

I just always feel sad reading these secrets that basically say "I'm really insecure about how I look and losing some weight will change that and finally 'allow' me to do what I want." The fact is your choice of clothing and your happiness in your own skin has a lot more to do with your attitude than your weight or any other aspect of your appearance.

There are, in fact, a lot of cute shirts and jean shorts in larger sizes than zero. In larger sizes than six, or even twelve. And you can totally wear them, and depending on what you pick you can wear them and still totally flatter your figure.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-15 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
EXACTLY. OP, nothing is preventing you from dressing like you want, except maybe money. Those outfits in particular can look great on larger girls, so why the urge to be skinny? Love your body for what it is, not what you want it to be.

+1

[identity profile] damnated.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
So much this.

I understand where you're coming from OP since I am definitely not skinny myself, but I've learned that I feel much happier if I accept the way I am (although I do exercise and eat healthy) rather than trying to change it.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-15 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
and some people feel much more confident/happy about themselves with a couple of kiles less. that's not a bad thing.

[identity profile] estellasharina.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
I like your comments in this thread. Just wanted to say. ^^

I'm one of those persons whose self-esteem did rise after losing some weight. However, I've been actively working on getting rid of my insecurity (still not entirely there; doubt I ever will, but it's no biggie - everyone's insecure sometimes) for quite some time, and losing some pounds just made me feel more at home in my own body and thus I felt better about myself and started believing that I'm beautiful in my own way. I still have a few pounds in excess that I would like to lose eventually, but I'm more or less satisfied with how I look and don't worry about getting rid of those pounds asap. Instead, I'm going to eat healthy and exercise and focus on being happy with myself - any weight lost is just an added bonus.

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I think that if you're going about it in a healthy way, and if Kpop is making you choose to lead a healthier lifestyle, then absolutely go for it. I know that dancing around to JPop has made me healthier.

Yet at the same time, a lot of the methods by KPop girls may not be healthy. A lot of stars in both Korea and Japan are unhealthily skinny, and that's not something to strive towards. Ultimately, a lot of girls in KPop groups can be considered underweight and SHOULD probably gain weight.

And like said above, there are a lot more options for looking cute and dressing better. Look up your body type, and see what can accentuate your strengths and reduce your weaknesses. And even still, certain clothes might not look good on you no matter what you do. I, for example, am pretty top-heavy, so there are some shirts that won't look good with that. You just have to look.

tl;dr stay healthy please!

(Anonymous) 2011-10-15 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you have motivation to lose weight, especially if you're unhealthily overweight. However, I'm a little leery because those girls...theyr'e stick thin!! You don't need to be that thin, or even close, to be healthy. And ANYONE can be pretty!!!

[identity profile] juandalyn.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I guess there's no problem with it as long as you don't overdo it.
Eat well, do sports instead of starving yourself.

But don't think you have to be the exactly same size as the girls in the picture. Some people's bodies simply are bigger.

[identity profile] tsu.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever motivates you to be healthy is fantastic. If losing weight will help you to be healthier and wear things that you'd like to, that's wonderful. You don't need to be a total stick like they are, but it looks like you already know that.

Good luck to you!

Other than the high waisted jeans, I don't see the appeal of their outfits.

[identity profile] princesoup.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
eh i think they could benefit from wearing like some leggings underneath or something just in case ACCIDENTAL PANTY FLASH + it'd be more interesting than just "whey legs"

Do what you want with your body, OP,
but some of those outfits sure are slutty.
Especially that middle chick.

Please don't wear shit like that in public, ever.
Shorts should not be as short as your underwear.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-15 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
please stop slut shaming. half the time those girls don't even get to pick their own outfits. it's a photoshoot. also, what you wear has nothing to do with who you are as a person. so please stop.

[identity profile] abominablebebop.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 02:45 am (UTC)(link)

And your icon is slutty.

I don't think any of those clothes are slutty and there's nothing immoral or wrong about wanting to show off your legs, for fuck's sake.

I really don't get this, I mean, you're only young for so long. When you get older, you start to get spider veins and cellulite and while that's okay and there's no shame in aging, at the same time women should be allowed to embrace and show off their legs while they're young IMO

(And, by the way, those outfits are adorable.)

[identity profile] hopeandmemory.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
totally understand, OP. i think having some kind of goal in weight loss is good, and if it's "hey, i want to be able to look really fit in this kind of clothing," that's cool. just don't go overboard with it, that's all. lord knows i wish i had legs like hyoyeon from SNSD.

take care of yourself. :)

If that's what you want and it will make you feel better about yourself, good luck, OP

[identity profile] omorka.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
But - they're wearing white tees/tanks and cut-offs. There's nothing that screams "skinny" about that, or "fashionable," for that matter. Just take an old pair of jeans, cut off the legs, and wear them in comfort and pride, OP.

Something about this secret really urks me... I understand how you feel OP because I myself needed a trigger to get motivated to lose weight. It wasn't kpop at the time but kpop is a good enough reason as any, I guess.

But please do it in a healthy way - nutritious diet and exercise. I think it was said upthread that some of those kpop girls do unhealthy things and it's true. They cut out carbs complete for eg, even for breakfast. If they're caught with snacks their snacks are taken away from them. They have a strict < 500 calories a day diet. Plus in promo photos like your secret they're photoshopped to look smaller so keep that in mind as well.

[identity profile] princesoup.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
do it bro, i love korean fashion

it's a shame i have to import it though because the shipping/import duty is more expensive than the actual shirts :U

[identity profile] strike-you-out.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Please keep in mind, Asian people tend to be naturally small in body weight and build. I doubt many of the girls in the photo are over 5' tall and probably none of them weigh over 95 lbs. Don't strive to be as tiny as them because it's genetically impossible.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight so long as you're doing it for you and not to please society, but why not work on your confidence at the same time? People who are overweight and have low self esteem think "oh everything will be better if I lose weight", but the self esteem issues won't all dissipate when you lose weight. A lot of people still feel fat even though they're down to a size that wouldn't be considered fat by most people, because they never developed any confidence.

You can wear cute clothes like that at just about any size. Why not go for it now? Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you're beautiful as you are now. That doesn't mean you can't go ahead and work on losing weight, too, but it'll make you so much happier if you build confidence along with it.
