This is the best secret ever. Also, my personal squick with RPF wouldn't apply to this because they are no longer alive.

OP here. Thanks! I usually don't go for RPF/RPS but...these two...yeah...I'm still leaning heavily towards bromance though for sure...but I can see the romance-romance.

This is generally a rule I have for RPF.

If the person's still alive = not okay.
Dead = fair game.

Historical figures tend to fall pretty much into the latter category. Maybe it's because I don't have to worry about them stumbling onto fanworks that makes the distinction in my head?

Although I love their father-son relationship far too much to ship it, I just have to say OMG WASHINGTON AND LAFAYETTE SECRET MY DAY IS MADE I LOVE THEM SO VERY VERY MUCH. Ahem.

This is hardly the first time I've heard of someone shipping them. In fact, I thought there was fic out there, though I can't remember.

This is why I ship Alexander Hamilton/Marquis de Lafayette. Then George Washington can just chill out and give everyone high fives. And Thomas Jefferson can feel neglected, forever.

Thomas Jefferson is having an affair with John Adams. It's one of those angry lawyer sex relationships, because they love yet hate each other. Oh the drama!

...does it make as much sense as Lafayette's plans to invade Canada - TWICE? Man had ambition!

Thomas Jefferson is influenced in my head irrevocably by 1776, so Jefferson is all dreamy peacenik and Adams is all RAWRAWRAWR at his throat and off having totally one-sided hatesex with the tall chill dude.

I don't have much of an opinion on George Washington but I do love me some Lafayette... are these letters online somewhere?

I believe there is a book (or several) out there that have collected Lafayette's letters. As for on the internet, you could probably find some of them or snippets of them on websites.

I love this secret. I've been poking around historical RPF every since one of my history professors even off on a tangent during a lecture of John Adams even having a crush on George Washington, or something.

The Valley Forge episode, where Lafayette goes to invade Canada and is confronted by Conway and Gates about forming a coalition to oust Washington. Lafayette shots them down by announcing his ~~love~~ loyalty to Washington and goes to tell him about it. Washington's all "Yeah I know. I was just worried you'd join them," which results in, well, the gif. :3

Awwww! *rewatched that episode* That's in the book I've been reading too - it didn't quite happen that way but it was very similiar. And kissing did occur - just when they were told France had actually signed a treaty of alliance with America.

This episode of the show stands out though because Lafayette's hair isn't powdered! XD
