I don't think it's creepy exactly, just kind of boring and not the greatest writing in the world.

I love the books and I don't really hate the canon pairings but I'll admit Rowling kind of dropped the ball in that sense. I mean, I wish Ginny had been dating other people because she thought they were great, for example.

(... OK, Snape's crush is creepy but I think it's supposed to be.)

Sorry but this is one thing I don't agree with it. Ginny stuck with both boys for months and nothing shows that she didn't actually care for them or thought they were great. Harry and Ron didn't even know she was dating Micheal for months till Hermione told them. Hermione using Cormac as a date is what dating for attention is like.

Snape's crush is pathetic and creepy tho ia.

Not really. She says she thought if she dated other guys she'd be herself around Harry and maybe he'd notice her then. I don't get where people get the idea that she didn't actually care for the guys, she stuck with them for months!

im not gona quote chapter and verse, but as i recall, didnt she date other boys becous hermonie was like "its fine ginny, theres plenty more fish in the sea" and after a bit, ginny was like "yea" and so dated people who wernt her deeply heald 11 year old crush becous, well...theres plenty more fish in the sea...

as opposed to some xanatose gambit to make harry look at her.

Yeah she never said that. Not to mention, one can move on with their life and care about other people while still holding out a hope that the person they may have the strongest feelings about will one day reciprocate. You can't just turn your feelings off, and in the off chance Harry never felt the same, it was clear Ginny would have moved on.

I mean, Ginny was not some 40 year old woman who lived half her life still pathetically pining after the same man (though that trope is a popular one throughout literature--the idea that someone would "wait" for their true love is the basis for many a well known OTP). She was a sixteen year old girl who'd only even been actively dating boys for two years. She never even got a chance to get over Harry because he was ALWAYS around her thanks to his friendship with Ron and relationship with the Weasley family on the whole.

I'll never understand people thinking Ginny dated those other boys to make Harry notice her. I always saw it that, while she would have loved Harry to do so, she also wasn't dumb enough to not live life if he never did.

I don't think Ginny was dating them for attention. And maybe she thought they were great in a more objective sense, so maybe I'm wrong in that way too. But she makes it pretty clear to Harry that she never really wanted to date anyone else and was always trying to forget him while dating other people, and I didn't like that.

Even if that's how you read it, isn't it realistic? She was trying to move on with her life even if she wanted Harry. It's much better than say R/Hr where they go through this vicious cycle.
