Isn't she writing for a fairly young audience though? I don't think that "yeah, that person you're with? You're almost certainly going to break up with them in next short while" is exactly what teenagers want to read, nor is "your first few relationships are almost certainly doomed to be nothing more than painful learning experiences as you grow into an adult" fun fantasy wish fulfillment for young kids.

She wrote the books so that they aged with the readers. New readers, people in their teens now, didn't grow up with the books. I wouldn't say she wrote them for a young audience consistently. The books did, in fact, mature as we the readers who'd been there since we were ten matured. When the last book came out, I'd just graduated high school and I don't think that all teenagers--or any in fact--should be taught that you'll always have a happily ever after with that person from high school.

That's not a good lesson because when real life doesn't imitate, you're disappointed and possibly lose faith in something that means a lot to you. I never did put much stock in the way Rowling wrote romance though. She's a great storyteller with fantastic characters, but her romances just suck. I love Ron and Hermione, but she even ruined that for me by how she finally had them come together.

Mostly, I just think she's bad at writing romance.
